Robert Morris Upends Women's Basketball In 1,000th Game In Program History, 74-56

EMMITSBURG, Md. - Robert Morris defeated Mount St. Mary's 74-56 in Northeast Conference (NEC) women's basketball action on Saturday. The game was the Mount's 1,000th game in program history.

Mary Dunn (Whippany, N.J./Morris Catholic) paced the Mountaineers (3-11, 0-3 NEC) with 21 points while Selina Mann (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) added 12 points, six assists, four steals and four rebounds in the loss.

Yohanna Morton fueled the Colonials (6-7, 3-0 NEC) with 24 points, including 18 points in the first half. Mary Durojaye tallied a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds while Artemas Spanou (15 points) and Destiny Harrison (10 points) also found double figures in the winning effort.

Robert Morris used a 17-2 run to end the first half to take the advantage and never look back to earn its third-straight win against Mount St. Mary's.

With the Mount holding a 25-24 advantage after a Jessie Kaufman (Damascus, Md./Damascus) 3-pointer at 5:52, the Colonials scored the next 12 points to take the lead they would not relinquish.

Morton started the run with seven-straight points on a jumper, a layup and a 3-pointer to give Robert Morris a 31-25 lead at 4:06. Spanou then scored the next five points on a jumper and trey to increase the margin to 36-25 with 2:53 on the clock.

After Mann momentarily halted the surge with a layup at 2:37 to trim the margin to 36-27 with 2:37 left, Morton scored the final five points of the stanza to give Robert Morris a 41-27 lead going into the locker room.

The Colonials then continued its success from the first half into the second half by scoring 12 of the first 16 points to extend its margin to 53-31 with 13:20 left.

The Mountaineers then made a run to come within 12 points after an 18-8 spurt. Dunn had seven points and Mann registered six points in the surge. Durojaye then notched a traditional 3-point play at 6:16 and the Mount could get no closer the rest of the way.

Robert Morris jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the first half thanks to eight points by Harrison and six by Spanou. Mount St. Mary's rallied with a 13-2 run to grab its largest lead at 22-19. Dunn recorded seven points and Kelly Guerriero (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Malloy) drained two 3-balls in the stretch. The two teams then traded baskets before the Colonials took the lead with 5:32 left in the stanza and never looked back.

Guerriero finished with six points while Ashley Christie (Miamisburg, Ohio/Archbishop Alter) added five points, five rebounds and five assists.

The Mount is 632-368 in program history. While playing in the squad's 1,000th game in program history, Dunn moved closer to scoring 1,000 points in her career with her 21 points. The senior needs 12 points to become the 25th player in program history to reach the milestone. It was Dunn's second 20-point performance of the season and the fourth of her career.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Monday against Saint Francis (Pa.). Game time is 7 p.m.
