Women's Basketball Restarts NEC Play At Quinnipiac On Tuesday

opening tip...

Tuesday's game between Mount St. Mary's and Quinnipiac marks the 22nd meeting in the all-time series dating back to the 1986-87 season.
• Quinnipiac leads the series 14-7, including a 6-4 mark in Hamden, Conn. The Mount has won the last two meetings at TD Bank Arena, including a 59-53 decision on Jan. 7, 2010.
• Mount St. Mary's has won three-straight in the series for the first time in team history, including an 86-57 win in the last tilt on Jan. 30, 2010.
• The Mountaineers are 3-3 against the Bobcats under head coach Bryan Whitten after only winning once in the previous 14 games.

about the bobcats... Quinnipiac comes into the contest 4-8 overall and 1-0 in Northeast Conference play after defeating New Hampshire 62-61 on Wednesday. The Bobcats won the game on a free throw from senior F Lailah Pratt with two seconds left for her only point of the contest. It was the second time the two teams played in seven days.
• Pratt is averaging 1.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game in 12 contests including four starts
• Junior F Jacinda Dunbar paced Quinnipiac with 26 points against New Hampshire. Dunbar ranks third with 8.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
• Senior C Courtney Kaminski tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds on Wednesday. The senior ranks second on the squad with 10.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
• Sophomore G Felicia Barron leads the team with 11.2 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. The sophomore posted a season-high 17 points in a 76-67 victory against Vermont on Dec. 1. Barron has fueled the team in points six times this season.

last time we met... Mary Dunn posted 19 points and Hassanah Oliver dished out a career-high 12 assists to power Mount St. Mary's past Quinnipiac 86-57 on Jan. 30, 2010. Lauren Howell drained five 3-pointers for 15 points for the Mount while Jamie Halloran notched a career-high 13 points. Courtney Kaminski paced the Bobcats with 28 points and 11 rebounds. The senior posted 24 points in the first half.

last time out... Sophomore Selina Mann scored the game-winning basket with 1.9 seconds left in overtime to lift Mount St. Mary's past San Francisco 79-77 in overtime on Friday. Mann finished with 14 points, eight assists, five steals and five rebounds. Senior Mary Dunn paced the Mount with a career-high 26 points.

quick hits on san francisco game... Mount St. Mary's rallied from a 17-point deficit in the second half to win the game in overtime. The Mount trailed 57-40 with 14:23 remaining and used a 21-4 run to tie the game at 61 before the two teams traded baskets until the end of regulation.
• Senior Mary Dunn scored a career-high 26 points, including 13 points in the final 20 minutes of the game. Dunn moved into 25th place in program history with 950 points.
• It marked the first time this season the squad had back-to-back 20-point performances after sophomore Selina Mann tallied a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Wednesday. The last time the Mount had back-to-back 20-point games was Lauren Howell against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 14, 2010 and Dunn against Long Island on Jan. 16.
• Mann finished the game with 14 points, a career high in assists (8) and steals (5) along with five rebounds. Mann scored the game-winning layup with 1.9 seconds left in overtime. Mann is averaging 20.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game in her last two games.
• Junior Sandra Andresson added a career-high 18 points along with seven rebounds. The junior is averaging 11.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in her last three games.
• Freshman Ashley Christie was the fourth player in double figures with 11 points against the Dons. The freshman is averaging 10.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game in her last three games.
• Sophomore Tara Lonergan added four points and career bests in rebounds (9), steals (3) and blocks (2) in her first collegiate start. The sophomore, who registered a career-high 13 points against San Jose State on Wednesday, made a steal in the closing seconds of regulation to help send the game to overtime.
• Mount St. Mary's had four players in double figures for the first time since Feb. 28, 2009 against Robert Morris.
• After not scoring more than 65 points in the first 10 games, the Mountaineers scored 72 points and 79 in their two games in California. Mount St. Mary's is 3-0 when the team reaches 60 points.
• Mount St. Mary's won its first overtime game since defeating William & Mary in overtime on Dec. 8, 2006.
• The Mount posted its first winning streak this season and its first since defeating Central Connecticut State on Feb. 18 and Bryant on Dec. 20 last season.
• The 17-point comeback was the first double-digit rally since the Mount came back from 14 points down to Fairleigh Dickinson in a 58-57 win on Dec. 22, 2007.

1,000 games in program history... Mount St. Mary's will be playing its 1,000th game in program history on Saturday against Robert Morris.
• The Mount is 632-366 in program history.

it all starts with defense... The opponent has scored 60 points in nine of the 11 games in 2010-11 and is averaging 67.4 points per game.
• Last season, the Mount allowed 60 points or more 11 times. The Mountaineers also ranked second in scoring defense (58.7 ppg.) in the Northeast Conference and 37th in Division I.
• The Mount has allowed 60 points in a game 52 times under head coach Bryan Whitten.

next on tap... Mount St. Mary's returns home for its Northeast Conference home opener against Robert Morris, the defending NEC regular season champions, on Saturday afternoon.

on the road... After losing its first six games on the road, the Mount has won the last two road games to improve to 2-6 on the road. The Mount is averaging 55.1 points per game and 75.5 in the last two games.
• Sophomore Selina Mann is averaging 9.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game on the road this season. The sophomore has scored double figures in four of her last five road games. Mann posted 11 points, seven rebounds and seven assists against Navy on Dec. 8, 10 points against Loyola on Dec. 11, a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Dec. 29 and 14 points against San Francisco on Dec. 31.
• Senior Mary Dunn is averaging 9.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game on the road this season. The senior has posted three double-figure performances away from Knott Arena, including her two best scoring outputs. Dunn registered 18 points against the Greyhounds and a career-high 26 points against the Spartans.

in the last five... The Mount is 2-3 in its last five games and is averaging 59.8 points per game.
• Senior Mary Dunn is averaging 13.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in the last five games. The senior posted 18 points against Loyola on Dec. 11, 12 points against Sacred Heart on Dec. 20 and 26 points against San Francisco on Dec. 31.
• Sophomore Selina Mann is averaging 11.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in the last five games. Mann has recorded three double-figure performances in that stretch. The sophomore posted 10 points against the Greyhounds, a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Dec. 29 and 14 points against the Dons.
• Junior Sandra Andresson is averaging 10.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game in her last five contests. Andresson recorded 10 points against Binghamton on Dec. 18 and 18 points against San Francisco.

tops in the league... Mount St. Mary's has posted the most wins in the Northeast Conference since joining the league in 1989-90 with 241 victories.
• The Mount has the third-most wins in league history, trailing only Monmouth (253) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (247).
• The Mount is 241-131 in Northeast Conference play, including 135-54 at Knott Arena and 106-77 on the road.

1,000-point countdown beginning... Senior Mary Dunn needs 50 points to become the program's 25th 1,000-point scorer.
• The senior would become the first Mount player since current assistant coach Brianna Gauthier accomplished the milestone in 2008-09. • Dunn has also moved into the programs Top-10 in rebounds (722) and games started (100).

wins vs. losses... Mount St. Mary's is averaging 72.0 points per game in its three wins compared to 45.7 points per game in the nine loses. The squad is 3-0 when it reaches 60 points.
• The Mountaineers are shooting 43.6 percent when it wins, but just 29.5 percent in a loss.
• Mount St. Mary's has been outrebounded in every game this season, but are only -5.3 in wins and -12.8 in losses.
• Mount St. Mary's is 3-0 when it leads at halftime and 0-9 when the opponents hold the edge.

• Sophomore Selina Mann scored a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Dec. 29. Fellow sophomore Tara Lonergan also established a career-best against the Spartans with 13 points.
• Sophomore Sydney Henderson had a career-high 17 points against Virginia on Nov. 14.
• Freshman Ashley Christie posted a career-high 14 points against UMES on Nov. 20.
• Freshman Kayla Grossett notched a career-high 13 points against UMES on Nov. 20.
• Freshman Kelly Guerriero had a career-best 10 points at Navy on Dec. 8.
• Freshman Jessie Kaufman each recorded a career-high nine points against Cincinnati on Nov. 23.

a new year, a new start... In January, the Mount is 217-83 and 132-75 since switching to Division I.
• The Mountaineers are 69-28 at home and 64-37 on the road since switching to Division I.
• Once the New Year hits, the Mount has posted a 468-214 overall mark and a 267-143 since turning Division I in the last three months of the season.
• The Mount is 10-17 under head coach Bryan Whitten in the month.
• Mount St. Mary's is 6-8 at home and 4-9 on the road in the month under Whitten.

hearing your name called at the start... Head coach Bryan Whitten has only had 17 players start in his four-year tenure at the Mount.
• The Mount has used three different starting lineups in the last four games.
• Senior Mary Dunn has started 100-straight games in her career.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks started 67 games in her career and 55 of the last 60 games.
• Junior Sandra Andresson has started 60 of the 73 games she has played.
• Sophomore Sydney Henderson started 15 of the 26 games she has played, including 10 straight.
• Freshman Ashley Christie has started the first 12 games of her collegiate career.
• Freshman Jessie Kaufman started the first nine games of the season before fellow freshman Kayla Grossett started games against Sacred Heart and San Jose State before sophomore Tara Lonergan made her first career start against San Francisco.

three-pointer to start scoring is deadly for the mount... Mount St. Mary's registered a 3-pointer for its first field goal of the game six times this season. The Mount is 0-6 in those games.
• The squad has hit a trey to start its scoring against Virginia (Nov. 14), Cincinnati (Nov. 23), Towson (Dec. 1), Pittsburgh (Dec. 4), Navy (Dec. 8) and Loyola (Dec. 11).
• Freshman Jessie Kaufman has hit the squad's opening 3-pointer in four of the six games.
• The Mountaineers are 3-3 when its first field goal comes from inside the arc.

preseason poll... Mount St. Mary's was picked 11th according to the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Long Island, who advanced to the NEC Championship Game last season, received six first-place votes to be tabbed as the preseason favorite while the defending league regular season champions Robert Morris was selected second after garnering three first-place nods. Sacred Heart placed third ahead of the defending NEC Tournament champions Saint Francis (Pa.), who picked up two first place votes while Monmouth nabbed the final first-place vote to finish fifth in the poll. Quinnipiac, Central Connecticut State, Bryant, Fairleigh Dickinson, Wagner, the Mount and St. Francis (N.Y.) rounded out the 12-team field.

the good and the bad for henderson... Sophomore Sydney Henderson scored a career-high 17 points against Virginia on Nov. 14.
• Henderson scored 13 of her 17 points in the first eight minutes of the second half.
• After establishing a new career-high on her bucket with 12:01 left in the second half, the sophomore left the game with a knee injury.
• Henderson will miss the rest of the season due to the knee injury sustained in the game against Virginia.

bcs schools on the schedule... The first six games in the 2010-11 campaign could have arguably been the toughest start in program history.
• The Mount faced Atlantic Coast Conference member Virginia in the season opener and Big East affiliates Cincinnati on Nov. 23 and Pittsburgh on Dec. 4.
• It marked the first time since the 2000-01 season the Mount will play three BCS schools when the squad faced Virginia (ACC), Georgia Tech (ACC) and Seton Hall (Big East).
• Mount St. Mary's also played three big conference schools in 1988-89 and 1994-95.

let's play to 60 points... Mount St. Mary's is most successful under head coach Bryan Whitten when it scores 60 points in a game or holds the opponent under that total.
• The Mount is 20-11 when it scores 60 points in a game, but 14-51 when it does not reach 60 points.
• Defensively, the Mountaineers are 26-22 when the opponents are held under 60 points and 8-43 when the opponent reaches 60 points.

three keys to whitten success... The Mount is most successful under head coach Bryan Whitten when the squad leads at halftime, in rebounding or keeps the opponent under 60 points.
• The Mount is 27-13 when he holds the lead at halftime, 2-2 when the game is tied, but just 6-50 when trailing at the break.
• The squad is 15-14 when it holds a rebounding edge in a game, but just 18-47 when the opponent has the advantage and 2-4 when the two teams have equal boards.
• Mount St. Mary's is 26-22 when it holds opponents under 60 points.

hitting 20 points in a game... Senior Mary Dunn and sophomore Selina Mann are the only two players on the roster that has scored 20 points in a game in their career.
• Dunn posted a career-high 26 points against San Francisco on Dec. 31. The senior also accomplished the feat twice last season when she recorded 21 points against Colgate on Nov. 24, 2009 and had 20 points against Long Island on Jan. 16, 2010.
• Mann became the first player this season to turn the trick when she posted a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Dec. 29, 2010.
• The Mount has registered 18 20-point performances and two 30-point games under head coach Bryan Whitten. The squad is 11-7 when a player reaches 20 points and 2-0 when a player scores 30 in a contest.

dunn on the all-time lists... Senior Mary Dunn is making a mark on the program's all-time list.
• The senior currently sits in 25th place in program history with 950 career points. After she becomes the newest member of the 1,000-point club, the next person on the list is Bernadine Bocus (1,007, 1982-86).
• The senior also ranks seventh in program history in rebounds per game (7.3 rpg.). Dunn moved into 10th place on the program's all-time rebounding list with 722 caroms after grabbing six boards against Loyola on Dec. 11. The senior can moved into ninth place and ahead of Bocus (735, 1982-86) with 14 rebounds.
• Dunn also ranks seventh in Mount Division I history with 14 career double-doubles. She can move up a spot with three next double-double.
• The senior is also fourth on the Mount's games started list with 100 career starts and can move into third place with one start to tie Nicole Schroyer (101, 1993-97).

other players on the move... Along with senior Mary Dunn, the Mount has several players making a move on the program's all-time scoring chart.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks has 533 career points to rank 50th in program history and can move into 49th place with four points and into 48th place with 14 points. Westbrooks also ranks 13th in Mount Division I history with six double-doubles and can move into eighth place with four double-doubles.
• Junior Sandra Andresson currently sits in 61st place in program history with 417 points and can move into 60th place with three points and 59th place with 18 points.
• Sophomore Sydney Henderson has 160 career points to sit in 85th place. She can move into 84th place with 13 points and 83rd place with 15 points.
• Sophomore Selina Mann has 187 points for her career to rank 83rd in team history and can move into 82nd place with one point, 81st place with six points, 80th place with 10 points and 79th place with 14 points.
• Freshman Ashley Christie has 108 points in her first season and can crack the Top-100 with 21 points.

freshmen for one-two-three... Freshmen Jessie Kaufman, Ashley Christie, Rachel Mathews and Kayla Grossett each knocked down their first career shot attempt in the game against Virginia.
• Kaufman gave the Mount a 3-2 lead with a 3-pointer 35 seconds into the game and Christie nailed 3-ball of her own to reclaim the lead for the Mountaineers at 6-4 with 18:28 left in the first half.
• Mathews recorded a 3-point play the traditional way after scoring a layup at 15:55 and then converting the free throw to give Mount St. Mary's a 9-7 advantage.
• Grossett nailed a 3-pointer on her first collegiate attempt at 5:25 in the second half.

in their debut... The five freshmen each saw action against Virginia on Nov. 14.
• Ashley Christie and Jessie Kaufman both made their collegiate debut in the starting lineup. Christie posted 13 points, including 10 in the second half, along with two rebounds and two assists. Kaufman had eight points, three rebounds, an assist and a block.
• Kayla Grossett, Rachel Mathews and Kelly Guerriero each saw time off the bench. Grossett had six points and two rebounds while Mathews had three points, three rebounds and an assist. Guerriero played the final 1:55 and missed her own shot attempt. Guerriero notched her first collegiate point in the second half against American on Nov. 17.

in the non-conference slate... Mount St. Mary's is 74-115 in non-conference games since joining the Northeast Conference in 1989-90.

home sweet home... In its 24th season at Knott Arena, Mount St. Mary's has posted a 204-98 overall mark, including 69-43 in non-conference play and 135-55 in league play since moving across Route 15 from Memorial Gym.

northeast conference history... Prior to last season, the Mount had advanced to 20-straight Northeast Conference Tournaments.
• Mount St. Mary's is 17-17 in the NEC Tournament.
• The Mountaineers have not won a tournament game since a 50-45 win against Sacred Heart on Mar. 4, 2001.
• Mount St. Mary's won tournaments in 1992-93, 1993-94 and 1994-95, including earning the league's first two NCAA Division I bids.

the underlining whit... Head coach Bryan Whitten is in his four season at the Mount in 2009-10. The Mount is 35-65 overall under Whitten.
• Whitten has defeated all 11 other teams in the NEC.
• The Mount is 15-30 overall at Knott Arena and 10-18 in NEC play under Whitten.
• The Mountaineers fair better on the road with a 20-35 overall mark away from Emmitsburg and 10-16 in league play.
• Whitten picked up his first Mount win with a 55-51 decision at Lafayette on Nov. 17, 2007 and earned his 25th career in at Lafayette on Nov. 30, 2009.
• Whitten earned his 250th win of his career against Quinnipiac on Jan. 30, 2010.

foreign flavor... Mount St. Mary's has three international players on the roster at the same time for the first time in program history.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks (Ireland) was the third international player at the Mount, junior Sandra Andresson (Estonia) became the fourth international player in Emmitsburg and freshman Kayla Grossett (Canada) became the fifth international player at the Mount.
• The trio follows Katie Walton (Canada, 1998-02) and Dita Krumberga (Latvia, 2004-07).
