Women's Basketball Welcomes Sacred Heart To Knott Arena On Monday

opening tip... Monday's game between Mount St. Mary's and Sacred Heart marks the 25th meeting in the all-time series dating back to the 1999-00 season.
• The Pioneers lead the series 20-4, including winning the last six matchups. Sacred Heart won the first tilt this season76-51 on Dec. 20.
• The Mount's last win in the series was a 74-63 victory on Jan. 19, 2008 at Knott Arena.
• The Pioneers lead the series at Knott Arena 7-3, including two-straight wins in Emmitsburg.
• Sacred Heart has won 19 of the last 20 matchups in the series.

about the pioneers... Sacred Heart comes into the contest 10-8 overall and 4-3 in Northeast Conference after losing on a 3-pointer at the buzzer at Wagner 66-65 on Saturday.
• Junior F Callan Taylor recorded 16 points and nine rebounds against the Seahawks. Taylor has been the Pioneers top scorer 13 times this season, including scoring 26 points in a 54-44 win against Bryant on Jan. 15. The junior leads the team with 14.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.
• Senior G Maggie Cosgrove added 15 points on Saturday. Cosgrove is averaging 7.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.
• Sophomore G Kiley Evans chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds at Wagner. The sophomore is second on the team with 9.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.
• Freshman G Ericka Norman has replaced senior G Alisa Apo in the starting lineup after the senior suffered a season-ending knee injury against Harvard two days after the first meeting against the Mount. Apo was the squad's second leading scorer with 11.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Norman, who tallied nine points, seven assists and six rebounds against the Seahawks, is averaging 4.8 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

last time we met... Sacred Heart defeated Mount St. Mary's 76-51 on Dec. 20. Mary Dunn led the Mount with 12 points while Ashley Christie added 11 points. Callan Taylor paced the Pioneers with 21 points. Morgan Merriman recorded 12 points and Alisa Apo chipped in 11 points.

last time out... Quinnipiac defeated Mount St. Mary's 74-60 on Saturday. Freshman Ashley Christie paced the Mount with 15 points.

quick hits on the quinnipiac game... Quinnipiac jumped out to an 11-0 lead and went into the locker room with a 22-point advantage. The Mount cut it to 14 points in the second half, but the Bobcats went on for a 74-60 win to sweep the season series.
• It marked the fourth time this season the Mountaineers did not hold the edge in a contest.
• Freshman Ashley Christie paced the Mount with 15 points. The freshman has posted double figures in three of her last four games, including a career-high 19 points against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 15. Christie is averaging 11.8 points and 3.5 assists per game in that stretch.
• Senior Mary Dunn added 12 points and seven rebounds against the Bobcats. The senior has posted double figures in six of the seven conference games this season and ranks eighth with 13.9 points per game in NEC games. The senior needs 10 points to move into 23rd place on the program's all-time scoring list and three rebounds to jump into seventh place for caroms.
• Freshman Kayla Grossett chipped in 10 points on Saturday. Grossett has three-straight double-digit performances and four in her last six games. She is averaging 12.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in her last three games and 9.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in her last six.
• The Mount has scored 60 points in four-straight games and seven of the last eight tilts. The squad is averaging 66.6 points per game in the last eight contests.
• It marks the first time 2007-08 the Mount has scored 60 points in four-straight games.

it all starts with defense... The opponent has scored 60 points in 14 of the 18 games in 2010-11 and is averaging 67.3 points per game.
• Last season, the Mount allowed 60 points or more 11 times. The Mountaineers also ranked second in scoring defense (58.7 ppg.) in the Northeast Conference and 37th in Division I.
• The Mount has allowed 60 points in a game 56 times under head coach Bryan Whitten.

next on tap... Mount St. Mary's will travel to Bryant on Saturday and Central Connecticut State on Monday. The Mount will be making its first trip to Smithfield, R.I., to face the Bulldogs on Saturday
• After the Mount returns from Connecticut, the Mountaineers will have five of its next six games at Knott Arena, starting with Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 5 for Homecoming.

at the knott... Mount St. Mary's is 1-6 at home this season and is averaging 52.0 points per game at Knott Arena. The squad has lost five straight in Emmitsburg.
• Senior Mary Dunn is the only player averaging double figures at home with 12.4 points along with 7.4 rebounds per game. The senior has five double-figure performances at Knott Arena, including her only two double-doubles this season. She posted 10 points and 10 rebounds against UMES on Nov. 20, 11 points against Towson on Dec. 1, 21 points against Robert Morris on Jan. 8, 18 points and 12 rebounds in her 1,000th-point game against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Jan. 10 and 12 points against Quinnipiac on Jan. 22. Dunn is averaging 17.0 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in her last three home games.
• Freshman Ashley Christie is averaging 9.7 points and 3.0 rebounds per game at Knott Arena. The freshman posted 14 points against UMES, 10 points against the Red Flash and 15 points against the Bobcats.
• Freshman Kayla Grossett has three double-figure games at home while junior Sandra Andresson, sophomore Selina Mann, sophomore Tara Lonergan and freshman Kelly Guerriero each have one 10-point game at home this season.

in the last five... The Mount is 1-4 in its last five games and is averaging 63.4points per game.
• Senior Mary Dunn is averaging 13.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in the last five games. The senior has registered four double-figure performances in that stretch, including 21 points against Robert Morris and 18 points and 12 rebounds against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Jan. 10, 13 points against Long Island on Jan. 17 and 12 points against Quinnipiac on Jan. 22
• Freshman Ashley Christie is averaging 10.4 points and 1.8 rebounds per game in her last five games. Christie had 10 points against the Red Flash, a career-high 19 points against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 15 and 15 points against the Bobcats.
• Freshman Kayla Grossett is averaging 8.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in her last five. She has posted three-straight 10-point performances after registering a career-high 16 points against the Terriers, 11 points against the Blackbirds and 10 points against the Bobcats.

stat stuffer... Sophomore Selina Mann has done it all on the court this season whether its scoring, rebounding, assisting or thievery.
• Mann has scored double figures in six games this season, including six of the last 13 games. The sophomore notched a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Dec. 29 and scored the game-winning basket against San Francisco on Dec. 31.
• The sophomore has grabbed at least five rebounds four times this season and the 5-4 guard has a 10-board game on her career resume.
• Mann has dished out four assists 13 times this season, including a career-high eight helpers against the Dons and seven dimes at Navy on Dec. 8 and at St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 15. She ranks second in the league with 4.46 assists per game.
• The sophomore has recorded two steals in 14 of the 17 games and four steals four times, including a career-best five thefts against San Francisco. Mann currently leads the conference with 2.63 steals per game.

tops in the league... Mount St. Mary's has posted the most wins in the Northeast Conference since joining the league in 1989-90 with 242 victories.
• The Mount has the third-most wins in league history, trailing only Monmouth (257) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (262).
• The Mount is 242-136 in Northeast Conference play, including 135-57 at Knott Arena and 107-79 on the road.

wins vs. losses... Mount St. Mary's is averaging 73.8 points per game in its four wins compared to 51.0 points per game in the 14 loses. The squad is 4-4 when it reaches 60 points.
• The Mountaineers are shooting 44.1 percent when it wins, but just 32.8 percent in a loss.
• Mount St. Mary's has been outrebounded in every game except Quinnipiac (Jan. 4) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (Jan. 15), but are only -3.7 on boards in wins and -11.3 in losses.

that was a career day... Freshman Jessie Kaufman recorded a career-high 14 points against Long Island on Jan. 17.
• Freshman Ashley Christie posted a career-high 19 points against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 15. Fellow freshman Kayla Grossett also had a career day against the Terriers with 16 points.
• Freshman Kelly Guerriero had a career-best 11 points against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Jan. 10.
• Senior Mary Dunn notched a career-high 26 points against San Francisco on Dec. 31.
• Sophomore Selina Mann scored a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Dec. 29. Fellow sophomore Tara Lonergan also established a career-best against the Spartans with 13 points.
• Sophomore Sydney Henderson had a career-high 17 points against Virginia on Nov. 14.

a new year, a new start... In January, the Mount is 219-88 and 134-80 since switching to Division I.
• The Mountaineers are 69-31 at home and 65-39 on the road since switching to Division I.
• Once the New Year hits, the Mount has posted a 469-219 overall mark and a 268-148 since turning Division I in the last three months of the season.
• The Mount is 11-22 under head coach Bryan Whitten in the month.
• Mount St. Mary's is 6-11 at home and 5-11 on the road in the month under Whitten.

hearing your name called at the start... Head coach Bryan Whitten has only had 18 players start in his four-year tenure at the Mount.
• The Mount has used three different starting lineups this season.
• Senior Mary Dunn has started 106-straight games in her career.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks has started 69 of her 83 games played.
• Junior Sandra Andresson has started 65 of the 76 games she has played.
• Sophomore Sydney Henderson started 15 of the 26 games she has played, including 10 straight.
• Freshman Ashley Christie has started the first 18 games of her collegiate career.
• Freshman Jessie Kaufman started the first nine games of the season before fellow freshman Kayla Grossett started games against Sacred Heart and San Jose State before sophomore Tara Lonergan made her first career start against San Francisco and has started the last seven games.

three-pointer to start scoring is deadly for the mount... Mount St. Mary's registered a 3-pointer for its first field goal of the game nine times this season. The Mount is 1-8 in those games and picked its first win after starting the game with a 3-pointer against St. Francis (N.Y.) on Jan. 15.
• The squad has hit a trey to start its scoring against Virginia (Nov. 14), Cincinnati (Nov. 23), Towson (Dec. 1), Pittsburgh (Dec. 4), Navy (Dec. 8), Loyola (Dec. 11), Quinnipiac (Jan. 4), Saint Francis (Pa.) (Jan. 10) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (Jan. 15).
• Freshman Jessie Kaufman has hit the squad's opening 3-pointer in four times, senior Mary Dunn has three opening treys while junior Sandra Andresson and freshman Ashley Christie each have one.
• The Mountaineers are 3-5 when its first field goal comes from inside the arc.

preseason poll... Mount St. Mary's was picked 11th according to the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Long Island, who advanced to the NEC Championship Game last season, received six first-place votes to be tabbed as the preseason favorite while the defending league regular season champions Robert Morris was selected second after garnering three first-place nods. Sacred Heart placed third ahead of the defending NEC Tournament champions Saint Francis (Pa.), who picked up two first place votes while Monmouth nabbed the final first-place vote to finish fifth in the poll. Quinnipiac, Central Connecticut State, Bryant, Fairleigh Dickinson, Wagner, the Mount and St. Francis (N.Y.) rounded out the 12-team field.

the good and the bad for henderson... Sophomore Sydney Henderson scored a career-high 17 points against Virginia on Nov. 14.
• Henderson scored 13 of her 17 points in the first eight minutes of the second half.
• After establishing a new career-high on her bucket with 12:01 left in the second half, the sophomore left the game with a knee injury.
• Henderson will miss the rest of the season due to the knee injury sustained in the game against Virginia.

let's play to 60 points... Mount St. Mary's is most successful under head coach Bryan Whitten when it scores 60 points in a game or holds the opponent under that total.
• The Mount is 21-15 when it scores 60 points in a game, but 14-51 when it does not reach 60 points.
• Defensively, the Mountaineers are 27-22 when the opponents are held under 60 points and 8-48 when the opponent reaches 60 points.

three keys to whitten success... The Mount is most successful under head coach Bryan Whitten when the squad leads at halftime, in rebounding or keeps the opponent under 60 points.
• The Mount is 28-13 when he holds the lead at halftime, 2-2 when the game is tied, but just 6-55 when trailing at the break.
• The squad is 16-15 when it holds a rebounding edge in a game, but just 18-51 when the opponent has the advantage and 2-4 when the two teams have equal boards.
• Mount St. Mary's is 27-22 when it holds opponents under 60 points.

hitting 20 points in a game... Senior Mary Dunn and sophomore Selina Mann are the only two players on the roster that has scored 20 points in a game in their career.
• Dunn posted a career-high 26 points against San Francisco on Dec. 31 and had 21 points against Robert Morris on Jan. 8. The senior also accomplished the feat twice last season when she recorded 21 points against Colgate on Nov. 24, 2009 and had 20 points against Long Island on Jan. 16, 2010.
• Mann became the first player this season to turn the trick when she posted a career-high 26 points against San Jose State on Dec. 29, 2010.
• The Mount has registered 19 20-point performances and two 30-point games under head coach Bryan Whitten. The squad is 11-8 when a player reaches 20 points and 2-0 when a player scores 30 in a contest.

notes on dunn's 1,000 point game... Senior Mary Dunn became the 25th player in program history to reach 1,000 points with her layup at 17:05 in the second half against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Jan. 10.
• Dunn is the first player to reach the milestone since current assistant coach Brianna Gauthier joined the club against Fairleigh Dickinson on Feb. 7, 2009.
• Dunn is the 15th player to reach 1,000 points at home. The Mount is 11-3 in those games.
• The senior is the third 1,000-point scorer head coach Bryan Whitten has coached at the Mount, joining Gauthier and Tiffany Green (2007-08).
• Dunn is the eighth player in program history to have 1,000 points and 700 rebounds in her career.

dunn on the all-time lists... Senior Mary Dunn is making a mark on the program's all-time list.
• The senior currently sits in 24th place in program history with 1,035 career points. Next on the list is Heather Wable (1,045, 1991-95).
• The senior also ranks seventh in program history in rebounds per game (7.3 rpg.). Dunn moved into eighth place on the program's all-time rebounding list with 763 caroms after grabbing 12 boards against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Jan. 10. The senior can move into eighth place and ahead of Susie Rowlyk (766, 1991-95) with four rebounds.
• Dunn also ranks seventh in Mount Division I history with 15 career double-doubles. She can move up a spot with two double-doubles.
• The senior is also third on the Mount's games started list with 106 career starts and can move into second place with four starts to tie former teammate and current assistant coach Brianna Gauthier (109, 2005-09).

other players on the move... Along with senior Mary Dunn, the Mount has several players making a move on the program's all-time scoring chart.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks has 541 career points to rank 49th in program history and can move into 48th place with six points. Westbrooks also ranks 13th in Mount Division I history with six double-doubles and can move into eighth place with four double-doubles.
• Junior Sandra Andresson currently sits in 59th place in program history with 437 points and can move into 58th place with 12 points.
• Sophomore Sydney Henderson has 160 career points to sit in 85th place. She can move into 84th place with 13 points and 83rd place with 15 points.
• Sophomore Selina Mann has 243 points for her career to rank 73rd in team history and can move into 72nd place with 13 points.
• Freshman Ashley Christie has 168 points in her first season to rank 86th in program history. The freshman can move into 85th place with five points, 84th place with seven points, 83rd place with 14 points and 82nd place with 18 points.
• Sophomore Tara Lonergan and freshman Kayla Grossett both recently surpassed 100 points in their career. Lonergan has 115 points and Grossett has 112 points. Each player can move into 100th place in team history when she reaches 138 points.

1,000 games in program history... Mount St. Mary's played its 1,000th game in program history on Jan. 8 against Robert Morris.
• The Mount is 633-371 in program history.

bcs schools on the schedule... The first six games in the 2010-11 campaign could have arguably been the toughest start in program history.
• The Mount faced Atlantic Coast Conference member Virginia in the season opener and Big East affiliates Cincinnati on Nov. 23 and Pittsburgh on Dec. 4.
• It marked the first time since the 2000-01 season the Mount will play three BCS schools when the squad faced Virginia (ACC), Georgia Tech (ACC) and Seton Hall (Big East).
• Mount St. Mary's also played three big conference schools in 1988-89 and 1994-95.

freshmen for one-two-three... Freshmen Jessie Kaufman, Ashley Christie, Rachel Mathews and Kayla Grossett each knocked down their first career shot attempt in the game against Virginia.
• Kaufman gave the Mount a 3-2 lead with a 3-pointer 35 seconds into the game and Christie nailed 3-ball of her own to reclaim the lead for the Mountaineers at 6-4 with 18:28 left in the first half.
• Mathews recorded a 3-point play the traditional way after scoring a layup at 15:55 and then converting the free throw to give Mount St. Mary's a 9-7 advantage.
• Grossett nailed a 3-pointer on her first collegiate attempt at 5:25 in the second half.

in their debut... The five freshmen each saw action against Virginia on Nov. 14.
• Ashley Christie and Jessie Kaufman both made their collegiate debut in the starting lineup. Christie posted 13 points, including 10 in the second half, along with two rebounds and two assists. Kaufman had eight points, three rebounds, an assist and a block.
• Kayla Grossett, Rachel Mathews and Kelly Guerriero each saw time off the bench. Grossett had six points and two rebounds while Mathews had three points, three rebounds and an assist. Guerriero played the final 1:55 and missed her own shot attempt. Guerriero notched her first collegiate point in the second half against American on Nov. 17.

in the non-conference slate... Mount St. Mary's is 74-115 in non-conference games since joining the Northeast Conference in 1989-90.

home sweet home... In its 24th season at Knott Arena, Mount St. Mary's has posted a 204-101 overall mark, including 69-43 in non-conference play and 135-58 in league play since moving across Route 15 from Memorial Gym.

northeast conference history... Prior to last season, the Mount had advanced to 20-straight Northeast Conference Tournaments.
• Mount St. Mary's is 17-17 in the NEC Tournament.
• The Mountaineers have not won a tournament game since a 50-45 win against Sacred Heart on Mar. 4, 2001.
• Mount St. Mary's won tournaments in 1992-93, 1993-94 and 1994-95, including earning the league's first two NCAA Division I bids.

the underlining whit... Head coach Bryan Whitten is in his four season at the Mount in 2009-10. The Mount is 36-70 overall under Whitten.
• Whitten has defeated all 11 other teams in the NEC.
• The Mount is 15-33 overall at Knott Arena and 10-21 in NEC play under Whitten.
• The Mountaineers fair better on the road with a 21-37 overall mark away from Emmitsburg and 11-18 in league play.
• Whitten picked up his first Mount win with a 55-51 decision at Lafayette on Nov. 17, 2007 and earned his 25th career in at Lafayette on Nov. 30, 2009.
• Whitten earned his 250th win of his career against Quinnipiac on Jan. 30, 2010.

foreign flavor... Mount St. Mary's has three international players on the roster at the same time for the first time in program history.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks (Ireland) was the third international player at the Mount, junior Sandra Andresson (Estonia) became the fourth international player in Emmitsburg and freshman Kayla Grossett (Canada) became the fifth international player at the Mount.
• The trio follows Katie Walton (Canada, 1998-02) and Dita Krumberga (Latvia, 2004-07).
