Softball Makes Up Doubleheader At Saint Francis (Pa.) This Afternoon

EMMITSBURG, Md. - The Mount St. Mary's softball team will make up its doubleheader at Saint Francis (Pa.) today in Loretto, Pa. The twinbill was originally scheduled for Apr. 25, but was postponed due to impending inclement weather and field conditions.

Today's doubleheader between Mount St. Mary's and Saint Francis (Pa.) marks the 51st and 52nd meetings in the all-time series dating back to the 1987 season. The Red Flash leads the series 42-18, including wins in five of the last six matchups. The Mount's last win in the series is a 3-2 decision in 2009.

In the last time the Mount faced Saint Francis (Pa.), Lisa Curreri started a three-run rally in the fifth and made the game-saving defensive play in the seventh to help Mount St. Mary's seal a 3-2 victory against Saint Francis (Pa.) on Mar. 28, 2009. The Red Flash came back to win the nightcap, 4-2. Curreri doubled to lead off the fifth inning and came around to score the Mount's first run of the game in the squad's decisive three-run fifth . She then trapped a low liner and threw the ball to second for the out to end the game in the seventh after the Red Flash loaded the bases. Curreri added two hits and a run in the nightcap. Jamie Fowler allowed two runs on six hits with four strikeouts to earn the win in the first game and then tossed four scoreless innings in relief in the nightcap. Fowler became the program's all-time leader in games pitched with her second appearance of the afternoon with her 96th career game pitched. Amanda Burk added four hits, two runs scored and an RBI in the twinbill. Megan Layne gave up two unearned runs on 10 hits with six strikeouts in a complete-game effort in the nightcap for the Red Flash while Kelly Cortese added three hits and a run scored and Kelly Slingwine recorded two hits and two runs scored on the afternoon.

Mount St. Mary's is 24-25 overall and 6-12 in Northeast Conference play after falling to Monmouth twice on Sunday. The Red Flash come into the afternoon 14-35 overall and 5-13 in league play after splitting a doubleheader with Long Island on Sunday.

The games against Saint Francis (Pa.) will mark the end of the collegiate careers of Amanda Buckel (Finksburg, Md./North Carroll), Lisa Curreri (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon), Katie Donovan (Seabrook, Md./St. Vincent Palotti), Ashley Lodato (Brick, N.J./Ranney) and Allie Vadas (Spring Lake Heights, N.J./Manasquan).
