Robert Morris Sweeps Softball; Sunday's Doubleheader At Saint Francis (Pa.) Postponed

EMMITSBURG, Md. - Robert Morris swept a Northeast Conference (NEC) softball doubleheader on Saturday. The Colonials won the opener 7-3 and then took the nightcap, 6-1.

Due to impending inclement weather and field conditions, the Mount St. Mary's doubleheader at Saint Francis (Pa.), originally scheduled for Sunday in Loretto, has been postponed. Makeup date and time to be announced. The Mount will now return to action on May 1 at Fairleigh Dickinson. Game time is 1 p.m.

Taylor Beebe (Olympia, Wash./Capital) fueled the Mount (23-22, 5-9 NEC) with three hits on the afternoon while Courtney Zingle (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) smacked a home run in the opener and Amanda Buckel (Finksburg, Md./North Carroll) drilled her first collegiate homer in the second game.

Annie Dubovec paced the Colonials (23-15, 11-4 NEC) with four hits, three RBIs and three runs scored. Megan Picinic added five hits, three RBIs and two runs scored while Jessica Calderone posted four hits and three runs scored on the afternoon.

In the opener, Robert Morris jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a Sarah Capp's RBI single to right and then Capps and Dubovec converted a double steal to score the second run.

Zingle answered for Mount St. Mary's in the second on her third home run of the season to cut the margin to 2-1.

The Colonials added a run in the third on a Dubovec sacrifice fly and then plated three runs in the fourth to grab a 6-1 advantage. After Kayla Crooks singled home the first run in the fourth, Timko brought two runs home on an error. Picinic then increased the margin to six runs with an RBI single to left in the fifth.

The Mount rallied for two runs in the fifth to cut the margin to 7-3. The squad got the two runs on three-straight doubles by Beebe, Lisa Curreri (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) and Liz Christiansen (Etters, Pa./Red Land), but the Mountaineers could get no closer the rest of the way.

In the nightcap, Robert Morris posted two runs in the first and three in the third to grab a 5-0 edge. Dubovec got the scoring started with an RBI double to left center before Capp brought home the second run on a single to left in the first. After Capp singled to center in the third to start a three-run stanza, Picinic smacked a two-run homer to left for a five-run lead.

Buckel led off of the third with a homer to left field for her first collegiate round tripper to trim the margin to 5-1, but the Colonials added a run on a Dubovec run-scoring single in the fifth for the 6-1 victory.

Curreri moved into seventh place for runs scored (32) in a single season while Christiansen jumped into fourth place for doubles (12) for a campaign. Amanda Sadowl (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) moved into sixth place in appearances (30) and seventh in innings pitched (153.1) on the single-season charts.
