EMMITSBURG, Md. - Amanda Sadowl (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) tossed an eight-hit shutout to lift Mount St. Mary's past Wagner 6-0 in the nightcap of a Northeast Conference (NEC) softball doubleheader on Saturday. The Seahawks rallied to take the opener, 8-4.

Sadowl pitched her fifth shutout of the season after throwing a complete-game eight hitter with two strikeouts in the nightcap. The sophomore earned her 10th win of the year to become the fifth pitcher in Mount Division I history to reach double digits in victories.

Amanda Buckel (Finksburg, Md./North Carroll) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI in the nightcap for the Mount (21-14, 4-2 NEC) while Taylor Beebe (Olympia, Wash./Capital) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the second game. Nicole Reeder (Glen Burnie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) posted three hits and a run scored and Courtney Zingle (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) added two hits, a homer, two RBIs and two runs scored on the afternoon.

Carley Nicoletti paced the Seahawks (9-21, 4-3 NEC) with six hits, three RBIs and a run scored while Amanda Garcia added four hits and two runs scored in the two games.

In the nightcap, Mount St. Mary's scored twice in the third, fourth and fifth to earn the win and split the twinbill against Wagner for the second-straight campaign.

Katie Donovan (Seabrook, Md./St. Vincent Palotti) started the rally in the third on a single up the middle before Zingle followed with a single to right center. Liz Christiansen (Etters, Pa./Red Land) then hit a fly ball to left that popped out of the left fielder's glove to plate Donovan and Zingle for a 2-0 lead.

Mount St. Mary's increased its lead to 4-0 in the next inning. After Reeder led off with a double down the left field line, Buckel brought home Reeder with an RBI single to right center and Buckel touched home on a wild pitch.

Beth Everist (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) started the two-run rally in the fifth with a single to right center with one out. Buckel then singled down the right field line before Everist scored on a wild pitch. Beebe plated Buckel with a run-scoring single through the left side for a 6-0 lead.

After the Mountaineers took a 2-1 lead in the opener, the Seahawks scored five times in the sixth and twice in the seventh to take the opener, 8-4.

Brittany Huss tied the game at 2 in the sixth on an RBI double to left center before Nicoletti gave Wagner the lead for good on a two-run single up the middle. After Jamie El-Aazami scored on a wild pitch, Krysta Fauria capped a five-run outburst with a sacrifice fly to right field for a 6-2 advantage.

The Seahawks added two runs in the seventh on Nicoletti's third RBI of the afternoon and an infield RBI single by Alyssa McCullough to increase the lead to six runs.

Mount St. Mary's came back with two runs in the seventh to trim the margin to 8-4. Erin Leddy (Great Mills, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) and Buckel recorded back-to-back singles with one out and both runners touched home on an error with two outs, but the Mount could get no closer after a groundout ended the opener.

Emily Pierce got the scoring started in the opener with her first homer of the season in the third.

Mount St. Mary's answered with a power surge of its own in the bottom of the inning. Donovan reached on an infield single and came around to score on Zingle's second roundtripper of the season to give the Mount a 2-1 edge. The Mountaineers held the margin until Wagner scored seven of the final nine runs to earn an 8-4 win.

With the win in game two, Mount St. Mary's has tied the 2008 team for third most wins in a single season in team history with 21. Zingle moved into seventh place with 60 career RBIs in program history.

The Mount returns to action on Sunday against Long Island. First pitch is 12 p.m.
