Softball Falls At Maryland, 4-2

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland defeated Mount St. Mary's 4-2 in the 2010 Maryland Round Robin Softball Tournament on Sunday.

Liz Christiansen (Etters, Pa./Red Land) paced the Mount (7-5) with two hits and an RBI. Jenna Zimmerman (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) registered two hits and a run scored while Lisa Curreri (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) knocked in a run in the loss.

Vangie Galindo fueled the Terrapins (8-7) with two hits, four RBIs and a run scored in the winning effort.

Maryland scored two runs in both the fourth and the sixth to take the second meeting against Mount St. Mary's in the final game of the 2010 Maryland Round Robin Tournament.

Galindo gave the Terps a 2-0 lead in the fourth on a two-run double through the left side. She then smacked a two-run homer in the sixth to give the host a 4-0 advantage.

The Mount rallied in the seventh for two runs. Taylor Beebe (Olympia, Wash./Capital) started the inning with a single through the left side. With one out, Zimmerman singled through the left side and Courtney Zingle (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Curreri brought home Beebe on a groundout to the shortstop before Christiansen plated Zimmerman on an infield single to trim the margin to 4-2. Maryland got out of the jam with a strikeout to end the game.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Tuesday at the Mason Mid-Week Invitational. The squad battles host George Mason at 12 p.m. and Hampton at 5 p.m.
