Softball Drops Two Games At 2010 Maryland Round Robin Tournament

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Mount St. Mary's dropped two games at the 2010 Maryland Round Robin Softball Tournament on Saturday. The Mount lost 4-0 in the opener against Towson and 6-1 to Princeton in the second game.

Lisa Curreri (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) paced the Mountaineers (7-4) with two hits and a run scored on the afternoon. Chloe Mizanty (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad) added a hit and an RBI in the loss to the Tigers.

Towson defeated the Mount 4-0 in the opening game of the afternoon. The Tigers (4-3) scored a run in the first on a Sammi DiPompo double to left field. Kim Lempa knocked in the second run on a single in the third before Towson added two insurance runs in the fifth when Haley Stueckler scored on an error and a run-scoring single by Lindsey Kent.

Curreri was the lone Mount player to reach base in the contest. The senior walked in the first with two outs and doubled to left in the fourth with one out. Towson got out of the jam in the fourth with consecutive strikeouts.

In the second game of the afternoon, the Tigers (1-2) defeated Mount St. Mary's 6-1. Princeton scored three times in the first inning on a Collette Abbott RBI double down the left field line and two-run home run by Jamie Lettire.

The Tigers added two runs in the third on a two-run roundtripper by Alex Peyton to grab a 5-0 advantage.

The Mountaineers got on the scoreboard in the fifth. Curreri reached on a fielder's choice and came around to score on Mizanty's double to right center.

Princeton added a run in the bottom of the inning on a Kelsey Quist home run to seal the 6-1 win.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Sunday in the final day of the 2010 Maryland Round Robin Tournament. The Mount faces the host Terrapins at 12:30 p.m.
