SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Liz Christiansen (Etters, Pa./Red Land) homered in the first game and Beth Everist (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) had a home run in the second game to lead Mount St. Mary's to a Northeast Conference (NEC) doubleheader sweep against Bryant on Saturday. The Mount the opener 4-0 and then took the nightcap 11-6.

Christiansen smacked her fourth home run of the season in the first inning of the opener to help the Mountaineers (17-10, 2-0 NEC) jump out to an early 1-0 advantage in the first inning and then drove in the squad's second run on an RBI double in the seventh to help put the game away. Christiansen went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored in the first game and added a hit and a run scored in the nightcap.

Everist drilled her sixth home run of the season as part of Mount St. Mary's six-run first inning in the nightcap. The junior went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the second game after notching two hits in the opener.

Amanda Sadowl (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) tossed a two-hit complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts in the opener for her eighth win of the year. The sophomore then pitched the final 2.1 innings in the nightcap with one strikeout for her first career save. Ashley Lodato (Brick, N.J./Ranney) had three hits on the afternoon with two RBIs and a run score while Courtney Zingle (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) registered three hits, two runs scored and an RBI.

Jennifer Jacob paced the Bulldogs (3-17, 0-2 NEC) with two hits, four RBIs and two runs scored in the nightcap.

In the opener, Christiansen got the Mount off to a fast start in the league opener with a solo homer to right field with two outs in the first.

The Mountaineers held the 1-0 edge until the seventh inning when the squad added three runs. Zingle doubled to left and Lisa Curreri (Clinton, N.J./North Hunterdon) walked before Christiansen doubled to right field to plate Zingle. Amanda Buckel (Finksburg, Md./North Carroll) sealed the win with a base hit to right to bring home Curreri and Christiansen.

In the second game, the Mount jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning on its way to an 11-6 win. Zingle opened the game with single before Curreri reached on an error. After Zingle scored on an illegal pitch, Everist belted a two-run homer to hand Mount St. Mary's a 3-0 edge. Nicole Reeder (Glen Burnie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) reached on an error and touched home on Lodato's run-scoring single to center. Taylor Beebe (Olympia, Wash./Capital) plated Lodato on a single to center before Zingle capped the six-run outburst with an RBI infield single.

Bryant answered in the third with four runs to cut the margin to 6-4 on Jacob's grand slam to center.

Back-to-back doubles by Christiansen and Everist and a Lodato RBI single increased the Mount advantage to 8-4 in the fourth, but the Bulldogs responded right back in their half of the stanza with a Regi Burdo RBI to trim the deficit to 8-5.

Bryant loaded the bases in the fifth with two outs and coaxed bases loaded walk to cut the margin to two runs. Sadowl then shut the Bulldogs down for the final 2.1 innings and the Mountaineers added two runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh to open league play 2-0 for the third time in program history (1999, 2006).

Mount St. Mary's posted two runs in the sixth when Erin Leddy (Great Mills, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) scored on an error and Katie Donovan (Seabrook, Md./St. Vincent Palotti) doubled home Buckel. Allie Vadas (Spring Lake Heights, N.J./Manasquan) singled in the seventh and came around to score on an error to seal the 11-6 win. Donovan went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the contest.

Everist's six home runs this season are the fourth most on the program's single season chart and her 10 career round trippers move her into fourth place on the all-time career list. Christiansen moved into ninth place for career homers with eight.

Curreri had a hit on the afternoon to move into third place on the program's all-time career hit list (137) and also moved into second in career at-bats (486).
