Emmitsburg, Md. (March 19, 2010)--Mount
St. Mary's dropped its home opener to Saint Peter's, 9-1, at Straw
Family Stadium on campus on Friday afternoon. Tommy Flynn posted a
pair of hits for the Mount (4-7) in the loss.
Saint Peter's (2-10) took control of the
game early with a two-run homer by Chris Grimes in the top of the
first inning. Sean McFadden belted a three-run shot in the top of
the second to give the Peacocks a 5-0 lead.
The Mount loaded the bases in the bottom
of the third and scored their only run of the game on a Kyle Kane
sacrifice fly. Saint Peter's added two runs in the fourth and two
more in the ninth to seal the win.
Flynn was 2-for-4 with a double and a run
scored to pace the Mount. Buddy Fields, Josh Winter, Tom Healy and
Alex Andrews also had base hits in the loss. Starter Costa
Kapothanasis allowed seven runs in seven innings, striking out five
in the game.
The Mount returns to action this weekend
with a four-game series at Penn beginning with a noon doubleheader
tomorrow.
