Baseball Drops Home Opener to Saint Peter's, 9-1

Emmitsburg, Md. (March 19, 2010)--Mount St. Mary's dropped its home opener to Saint Peter's, 9-1, at Straw Family Stadium on campus on Friday afternoon. Tommy Flynn posted a pair of hits for the Mount (4-7) in the loss.

Saint Peter's (2-10) took control of the game early with a two-run homer by Chris Grimes in the top of the first inning. Sean McFadden belted a three-run shot in the top of the second to give the Peacocks a 5-0 lead.

The Mount loaded the bases in the bottom of the third and scored their only run of the game on a Kyle Kane sacrifice fly. Saint Peter's added two runs in the fourth and two more in the ninth to seal the win.

Flynn was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored to pace the Mount. Buddy Fields, Josh Winter, Tom Healy and Alex Andrews also had base hits in the loss. Starter Costa Kapothanasis allowed seven runs in seven innings, striking out five in the game.

The Mount returns to action this weekend with a four-game series at Penn beginning with a noon doubleheader tomorrow.
