Navy Sinks Women's Basketball, 63-46

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy defeated Mount St. Mary's 63-46 in non-conference women's basketball action on Wednesday.

Selina Mann (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) paced the Mount (1-6) with a season-high 11 points and a personal-best seven assists. Freshman Kelly Guerriero (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Malloy) added a career-high 10 points and fellow freshman Ashley Christie (Miamisburg, Ohio/Archbishop Alter) also recorded 10 points in the loss.

Cassie Consedine fueled the Midshipmen (5-4) with 14 points and six rebounds. Chey Arvin added 12 points and Angela Myers chipped in 10 points in the winning effort.

Navy used a strong finish to the first half and never looked back to earn its second-straight win against Mount St. Mary's in the first meeting between the two programs since the 2005-06 campaign.

The Midshipmen closed the first half with a 17-0 run in the final 5:36 of the stanza to go into the locker room with a 35-19 advantage.

After Sandra Andresson (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentes School) gave the Mount its fourth lead of the night at 19-16 on a 3-pointer at 6:26, Navy scored the final 17 points of the half. Jade Geif started the run by making two free throws at 5:36 to give the Midshipmen a 20-19 lead.

Kara Pollinger then hit a jumper at 4:55 and Meyers drilled two charity tosses at 4:22 to extend the margin to 24-19. Alix Membreno then scored in the paint at 3:51 before Consedine converted two at the free throw line at 2:10. After Arvin nailed a 3-pointer at 1:22 and hit the backend of two free throws 26 seconds later, Pollinger drilled a trey with 19 ticks left to give the Midshipmen a 35-19 lead at the break.

Navy started the second half with a 14-6 run to take a 49-25 advantage with 12:31 left in the game. Fueled by 10 points from Guerriero, Mount St. Mary's went on a 14-2 run to cut the deficit to 51-39 at the 8:56 mark. The freshman scored eight-straight points on a jumper and two triples in a span of 80 seconds. Consedine answered for Navy with four unanswered points and the Mount could get no closer the rest of the way.

The Mountaineers grabbed a 5-0, 10-5, 16-14 and 19-18 advantages before Navy made its run to end the first half. Mann paced the Mount with eight points in the first stanza after scoring eight-straight points for Mount St. Mary's.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Saturday at Loyola. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
