Wednesday's game between Mount St. Mary's and San Jose State marks the first meeting in program history for the two teams.
• The Mount is 1-0 against the Western Athletic Conference after defeating Fresno State 76-68 at the PNC Wildcat Holiday Classic on Dec. 29, 1999 hosted by Villanova in Philadelphia, Pa.
• The Spartans have only faced Long Island from the Northeast Conference after downing the Blackbirds 90-87 on Dec. 20, 2001.• Mount St. Mary's is making it first trip to the state of California, but this is not the squad's first trip out west. The Mount participated in the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout during the 2003-04 campaign. San Jose competed in the same tournament this season in Alaska.

about the spartans... San Jose State comes into the contest 0-11 after falling 102-62 to UC Davis on Dec. 21.
• Sophomore C Myesha Broaden paced the Spartans with 19 points and five rebounds against UC Davis. The sophomore is averaging 5.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.
• Junior F Brittany Johnson added 16 points in the squad's last game. The junior tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds in a 73-64 loss against Cal Poly on Dec. 18. Johnson leads the team with 10.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
• Sophomore G Sayja Sumler added 11 points, five rebounds and five assists against UC Davis. The sophomore is averaging 7.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
• Senior G Sara Plavljanin chipped in 10 points in San Jose State's last game. Placljanin posted 15 points in the loss to Cal Poly. The senior ranks second on the squad with 9.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game

first game after the holiday... Mount St. Mary's is 2-1 in its first game after the holiday under head coach Bryan Whitten.
• The Mount defeated Fordham 56-43 on Dec. 27, 2008, lost at Canisius 77-62 and downed Penn 60-48 on Dec. 29, 2009.
• The game against San Jose State will mark the third time the Mount has faced a winless team in the first game after the holiday (Fordham and Penn).

last time out... Sacred Heart defeated Mount St. Mary's 76-51 on Dec. 20 in the Northeast Conference opener for both teams. Senior Mary Dunn paced the Mount with 12 points and five rebounds while freshman Ashley Christie added 11 points and five steals.

quick hits on sacred heart game... Mount St. Mary's held the lead three times in the first six minutes of the game. With the game tied at 13, the Pioneers closed the half with a 24-11 run to take the lead they would not relinquish.
• Mount St. Mary's has lost seven-games in a row for the first time since head coach Bryan Whitten's first season in 2007-08 when the Mount lost seven straight from Nov. 20 to Dec. 19. It is the squad's fifth seven-game losing streak in program history (1974-75, 2000-01, 2004-05, 2007-08, 2010-11). The five seven-game losing streaks are the only times in program history the squad has lost more than four games in a row and the longest streak in program history.
• Senior Mary Dunn paced the Mount with 12 points and five rebounds. The senior is averaging 12.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per game in her last three contests.
• Freshman Ashley Christie added 11 points and a career-high five steals. It was the freshman's fourth double-digit performance this season to tie Dunn for the team lead.
• Freshman Kayla Grossett made her first collegiate start in the game, registering six points, four rebounds and four assists in 27 minutes. The freshman replaced fellow freshman Jessie Kaufman in the starting five after Kaufman started the first eight games of the year.
• Junior Sandra Andresson is averaging 9.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game over her last two games. Andresson has grabbed at least five rebounds in four of her last seven tilts.

three-pointer to start scoring is deadly for the mount... Mount St. Mary's registered a 3-pointer for its first field goal of the game six times this season. The Mount is 0-6 in those games.
• The squad has hit a trey to start its scoring against Virginia (Nov. 14), Cincinnati (Nov. 23), Towson (Dec. 1), Pittsburgh (Dec. 4), Navy (Dec. 8) and Loyola (Dec. 11).
• Freshman Jessie Kaufman has hit the squad's opening 3-pointer in four of the six games.
• The Mountaineers are 1-3 when its first field goal comes from inside the arc.

it all starts with defense... The opponent has scored 60 points in eight of the 10 games in 2010-11 and is averaging 66.3 points per game.

its a shooting and rebounding thing... Mount St. Mary's is 0-9 this season when the opponents have a better shooting percentage than the Mount.
• Under head coach Bryan Whitten, the Mount is 26-10 when it has a better shooting performance, but just 7-55 when the opponents has a better shooting game.
• Rebounds have also been a concern with the opponent holding the edge in all 10 games and the Mountaineers are currently -11.5 per game in rebounds.

preseason poll... Mount St. Mary's was picked 11th according to the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. Long Island, who advanced to the NEC Championship Game last season, received six first-place votes to be tabbed as the preseason favorite while the defending league regular season champions Robert Morris was selected second after garnering three first-place nods. Sacred Heart placed third ahead of the defending NEC Tournament champions Saint Francis (Pa.), who picked up two first place votes while Monmouth nabbed the final first-place vote to finish fifth in the poll. Quinnipiac, Central Connecticut State, Bryant, Fairleigh Dickinson, Wagner, the Mount and St. Francis (N.Y.) rounded out the 12-team field.

the good and the bad for henderson... Sophomore Sydney Henderson scored a career-high 17 points against Virginia on Nov. 14.
• Henderson scored 13 of her 17 points in the first eight minutes of the second half.
• After establishing a new career-high on her bucket with 12:01 left in the second half, the sophomore left the game with a knee injury.
• Henderson will miss the rest of the season due to the knee injury sustained in the game against Virginia.

bcs schools on the schedule... The first six games in the 2010-11 campaign could have arguably been the toughest start in program history.
• The Mount faced Atlantic Coast Conference member Virginia in the season opener and Big East affiliates Cincinnati on Nov. 23 and Pittsburgh on Dec. 4.
• It marked the first time since the 2000-01 season the Mount will play three BCS schools when the squad faced Virginia (ACC), Georgia Tech (ACC) and Seton Hall (Big East).
• Mount St. Mary's also played three big conference schools in 1988-89 and 1994-95.

The senior accomplished the feat twice last season when she posted a career-high 21 points against Colgate on Nov. 24, 2009 and had 20 points against Long Island on Jan. 16, 2010.
• The Mount has registered 16 20-point performances and two 30-point games under head coach Bryan Whitten. The squad is 9-7 when a player reaches 20 points and 2-0 when a player scores 30 in a contest.

dunn on the all-time lists... Senior Mary Dunn is making a mark on the program's all-time list.
• The senior currently sits in 27th place in program history with 920career points. She can pass Rose Stephens (925, 1976-80) with 16 points.
• The senior also ranks seventh in program history in rebounds per game (7.3 rpg.). Dunn moved into 10th place on the program's all-time rebounding list with 708 caroms after grabbing six boards against Loyola on Dec. 11. The senior can moved into ninth place and ahead of Bernadine Bocus (735, 1982-86) with 38 rebounds.
• Dunn also ranks seventh in Mount Division I history with 14 career double-doubles. She can move up a spot with three next double-double.
• The senior is also fourth on the Mount's games started list with 98 career starts and can move into third place with three starts to tie Nicole Schroyer (101, 1993-97).

other players on the move... Along with senior Mary Dunn, the Mount has several players making a move on the program's all-time scoring chart.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks has 533 career points to rank 50th in program history and can move into 49th place with four points and into 48th place with 14 points. Westbrooks also ranks 13th in Mount Division I history with six double-doubles and can move into eighth place with four double-doubles.
• Junior Sandra Andresson currently sits in 61st place in program history with 390 points and can move into 60th place with 29 points.
• Sophomore Sydney Henderson has 160 career points to sit in 85th place. She can move into 84th place with 13 points and 83rd place with 15 points.
• Sophomore Selina Mann has 162 points for her career to rank 95th in team history and can move into 85th place with 11 points.

freshmen for one-two-three... Freshmen Jessie Kaufman, Ashley Christie, Rachel Mathews and Kayla Grossett each knocked down their first career shot attempt in the game against Virginia.
• Kaufman gave the Mount a 3-2 lead with a 3-pointer 35 seconds into the game and Christie nailed 3-ball of her own to reclaim the lead for the Mountaineers at 6-4 with 18:28 left in the first half.
• Mathews recorded a 3-point play the traditional way after scoring a layup at 15:55 and then converting the free throw to give Mount St. Mary's a 9-7 advantage.
• Grossett nailed a 3-pointer on her first collegiate attempt at 5:25 in the second half.

in their debut... The five freshmen each saw action against Virginia on Nov. 14.
• Ashley Christie and Jessie Kaufman both made their collegiate debut in the starting lineup. Christie posted 13 points, including 10 in the second half, along with two rebounds and two assists. Kaufman had eight points, three rebounds, an assist and a block.
• Kayla Grossett, Rachel Mathews and Kelly Guerriero each saw time off the bench. Grossett had six points and two rebounds while Mathews had three points, three rebounds and an assist. Guerriero played the final 1:55 and missed her own shot attempt. Guerriero notched her first collegiate point in the second half against American on Nov. 17.

tops in the league... Mount St. Mary's has posted the most wins in the Northeast Conference since joining the league in 1989-90 with 241 victories.
• The Mount has the third-most wins in league history, trailing only Monmouth (253) and Saint Francis (Pa.) (247).
• The Mount is 241-131 in Northeast Conference play, including 135-54 at Knott Arena and 106-77 on the road.

home sweet home... In its 24th season at Knott Arena, Mount St. Mary's has posted a 204-98 overall mark, including 69-43 in non-conference play and 135-55 in league play since moving across Route 15 from Memorial Gym.

northeast conference history... Prior to last season, the Mount had advanced to 20-straight Northeast Conference Tournaments.
• Mount St. Mary's is 17-17 in the NEC Tournament.
• The Mountaineers have not won a tournament game since a 50-45 win against Sacred Heart on Mar. 4, 2001.

the underlining whit... Head coach Bryan Whitten is in his four season at the Mount in 2009-10. The Mount is 33-65 overall under Whitten.

foreign flavor... Mount St. Mary's has three international players on the roster at the same time for the first time in program history.
• Senior Leah Westbrooks (Ireland) was the third international player at the Mount, junior Sandra Andresson (Estonia) became the fourth international player in Emmitsburg and freshman Kayla Grossett (Canada) became the fifth international player at the Mount.
• The trio follows Katie Walton (Canada, 1998-02) and Dita Krumberga (Latvia, 2004-07).

coaching changes... For the third-straight season, head coach Bryan Whitten has made changes to his coaching staff. Denise King and Lisa Steele both moved up a chair while Whitten added Mount alumni Brianna Gauthier this season.
• King is in her second season at the Mount after serving as an assistant coach at Rhode Island for the last four years.
• Steele is also in her second season at the Mount after ending her four-year career at George Washington in 2008-09 after registering 206 points and 107 rebounds with the Colonials.
• Gauthier returns to the Mount after serving as an assistant coach under former Mount assistant Mark Zacher at Norwich, a Division III school in Vermont. A 2009 graduate of the Mount, she finished her career 18th in program history in all-time career points (1,128), second in 3-pointers made (164), second in 3-pointers attempted (490) and ninth in assists (335). Gauthier briefly played professionally in Sweden before joining the Norwich coaching staff last season.
