EMMITSBURG, Md. - Towson defeated Mount St. Mary's 66-48 in non-conference women's basketball action on Wednesday.

Mary Dunn (Whippany, N.J./Morris Catholic) paced the Mount (1-4) with 11 points and six rebounds while Kayla Grossett (Toronto, Ontario/David and Mary Thompson C.I.) also had 11 points in the loss.

Sheree Ledbetter fueled the Tigers (3-3) with 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Krystin Fields added 13 points and six rebounds off the bench.

Towson took the lead early in the first half and never looked back to earn its third-straight win against Mount St. Mary's and the first since the 2007-08 season opener.

After Dunn nailed a 3-pointer at 19:10 to give the Mountaineers a 3-2 edge, the Tigers took the lead for good on a Dovile Miliauskaite layup at 18:31. The game remained close over the next four minutes before Towson went on a 21-4 run to take a 32-11 lead with 4:48 left in the first half. Fields fueled the surge with seven points. Towson went into the locker room with a 38-17 lead.

The Tigers extended the advantage to 27 points with 10:40 left before Mount St. Mary's went on an 18-4 run to trim the margin to 56-43 with 3:11 on the clock.

Ashley Christie (Miamisburg, Ohio/Archbishop Alter) started the spurt with a 3-pointer at 7:41 and then the freshman scored in the lane 56 seconds later before Grossett scored a bucket at 6:03 to trim the deficit to 52-32.

After Victoria Naylor converted two free throws at 5:52, Selina Mann (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield), Sandra Andresson (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentes School) and Dunn each registered a basket to make the score 54-38 with 4:41 remaining.

Charmonique Watt momentarily halted the Mountaineers run with a jumper at 4:09, but the Mount rolled off the next five points to cut the margin to 56-43 with 3:11 left. Grosssett hit the second of two charity tosses at 3:53 and then Mann and Dunn both scored in the paint to make it a 13-point contest. Fields nailed a jumper at 2:49 and Mount St. Mary's could get no closer the rest of the way.

Christie and Andresson both finished the game with eight points while Mann had six points in the loss. Dunn moved into 28th place on the program's all-time career scoring list with 880 points and also jumped into eighth place for career starts in team history with 93.

The Mount returns to action on Saturday at Pittsburgh. Game time is 6 p.m.
