TOWSON,
Md. Towson swept a non-conference softball doubleheader on
Wednesday. The Tigers took the opener 10-2 and then won the
nightcap, 16-5.
Taylor
Beebe (Olympia, Wash./Capital) had two hits and two runs scored in
the opener for the Mount (3-19) while Lisa Curreri (Clinton,
N.J./North Hunterdon) had two hits in the nightcap.
Mindy
Bean paced the Tigers (15-9) with three hits, three runs scored and
seven RBIs in the twinbill and Stef Streets added two hits, three
runs scored and two RBIs on the afternoon.
In the
opening game, Towson scored the final nine runs to come-from-behind
for a 10-2 victory.
Trailing
2-1 in the bottom of the third, the Tigers scored eight runs to
take the lead it would not relinquish.
Emily
Gould started the eight-run rally with a homer to left field before
Joyce Delp gave Towson the lead for good on a groundout to first
for a 3-2 margin. Meaghan Clark then smacked a two-run homer down
the line before Bean drilled a grand slam down the left field line
to cap the stanza. Towson added a run in the fifth on an Erika
Stasch RBI infield single for a 10-2 advantage.
Mount St.
Mary's grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Beebe opened
the game with a walk and came around to score on Beth Everist's
(Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) single through the left side.
The
Tigers tied the game at 1 in the second on a Marybeth Herrick
sacrifice fly.
The Mount
regained the one-run lead in the third. Beebe doubled down the
right field line for her 10th double of the year and scored on a
pass ball for a 2-1 margin. Towson then scored the final nine runs
to come away with the victory.
In the
nightcap, the Tigers jumped out to a 15-0 advantage and went on for
a 16-5 decision.
Gould
gave Towson a 1-0 lead on a run-scoring double down the right field
line in the first before Bean plated the squad's second run on a
RBI single through the right side in the second.
Aided by
five errors, the Tigers scored 13 runs on 10 hits in the third to
take a 15-0 advantage.
The
Mountaineers scored two runs in the fourth to get on the
scoreboard. Allie Vadas (Spring Lake Heights, N.J./Manasquan) and
Ashley Lodato (Brick, N.J./Ranney) walked to start the stanza and
came around to score after Curreri reached on a fielding error to
trim the margin to 15-2.
Towson
added a run in the fourth on a Stasch fielder's choice.
Mount St.
Mary's scored three runs in the fifth to make the score 16-5.
Courtney Zingle (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) led off the inning
with a home run to left center. Vadas walked for the second time in
game and touched home when pinch hitter Liz Christiansen (Etters,
Pa./Red Land) smacked her fourth home run in the last seven
days.
The Mount
returns to action on Thursday when the squad makes its 2009 home
debut against Coppin State. First pitch is 3 p.m.
