Kelly Beidler's Career High 22 Points Paces Mount to 75-68 Win at Fairleigh Dickinson

Teaneck, N.J. (February 7, 2009)—Kelly Beidler (Virginia Beach, Va./Tallwood) scored a career-high 22 points and added seven rebounds to lead Mount St. Mary's past Fairleigh Dickinson, 75-68, in Northeast Conference action on Saturday night. The Mount has won nine of its past 10 games to move to 14-10 overall and 9-4 in the Northeast Conference.

Beidler scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half as the Mount held on for the victory. Leading 32-25 at the half, the Mount saw Fairleigh Dickinson score the first four points of the second half to cut the lead to three. Mount St. Mary's answered with a 15-to-5 run to grab a 47-34 advantage after a Jeremy Goode (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) three-pointer.

FDU was able to stay in the game behind Sean Baptiste's 27 points. Baptiste scored 16 points in the second half, including a three-pointer that cut the Mount advantage to 57-48 with 6:05 left. Beidler answered with a three-pointer of his own to regain a double-digit lead for the Mount.

The closest FDU (6-18, 5-8 NEC) got the rest of the way was the final score of 75-68.

Beidler hit 9-of-14 shots from the field for his career-best 22 points for the Mount. Goode added 18 points, five assists and five rebounds while Jean Cajou (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI) added 14 points in the win. Tayvon Jackson (Indian Head, Md./Lackey) chipped in a career-high seven points and four rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench for the Mount.

Baptiste was 10-of-15 from the field and 4-of-6 from three-point range for his 27-point night while Cameron Tyler added 10 points and 11 assists for a double-double.

"I am happy about getting the road win tonight," said Mount St. Mary's head coach Milan Brown. "It showed mental toughness to get the win after a tough loss the other night. Tayvon Jackson gave us a big lift off the bench with his energy tonight while Kelly Beidler and Jeremy Goode made key plays throughout the game."

The Mount opened the game with an 11-0 run over the first five minutes of the contest. Goode capped the streak with a three-pointer while Beidler added back-to-back baskets in the run. The Knights were able to cut the Mount advantage to 21-13, but a 9-3 spurt gave the Mount its biggest lead of the half, 30-16.

Tayvon Jackson tallied a traditional three-point play and a putback basket during the streak to give the Mount a 14-point lead. The Knights, however, scored the next nine points to cut the deficit to five before Markus Mitchell's rebound basket made the score 32-25 at the half.

Mount St. Mary's scored 15 points off 12 Fairleigh Dickinson turnovers in the first half, but the Knight's hit 4-of-6 from three-point range to stay in the game.

Mount St. Mary's returns home to face St. Francis (N.Y.) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, at Knott Arena on campus.
