the third meeting in the all-time series dating back to the 2006-07
season.
►Pittsburgh leads the series 2-0 after defeating the Mount
77-55 on Nov. 17, 2006 in the Steel City before downing the
Mountaineers 82-31 at Knott Arena on Nov. 20, 2007.
►The game also marks the sixth meeting between Mount St.
Mary's and Pittsburgh head coach Agnus (McGlade) Berenato.
Berenato, a 1980 graduate of the Mount, is 3-2 against her alma

►The Mount defeated Berenato's Rider Broncs 67-37 on Dec. 3,

►Junior G Taneisha Harrison paced the Panthers with 17 points
against the Dukes. Harrison leads the team with 15.2 points and 4.3
rebounds per game.
►Junior G Shayla Scott added 16 points on Tuesday. The junior
ranks third on the squad with 11.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per

►Junior F Chelsea Cole tallied six points and 21 rebounds
against Duquesne. Cole is almost averaging a double-double with 9.3
points and 11.2 rebounds per game.
►Junior G Jania Sims ranks second on the team with 12.9

last time we met... Pittsburgh defeated Mount
St. Mary's 82-31 on Nov. 20, 2007. Hassanah Oliver posted 11 points
and six rebounds for the Mount in the loss. Marcedes Walker paced
the Panthers with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Shavonte Zellous added
20 points while Xenia Stewart (11 points) and Shayla Scott (10
points) also reached double figures in the winning effort.
mount vs. the big east ...The Mount is 8-21
all-time against members of the Big East, including an 0-16 against
the league since switching to Division I in 1988-89. The
Mountaineers have played Notre Dame (1-0), Georgetown (5-11), West
Virginia (2-3), Villanova (0-3) and Pittsburgh (0-2).
►The Mount also played Virginia Tech this season, falling
44-42 on Dec. 9. It marks the first time the Mount has played a
team from two of the major conferences since the squad played
Maryland and West Virginia in 1995-96.
►The Mountaineers played Georgetown and Villanova in 1999-00
and Geogia Tech and Virginia in 2000-01.
last time out... Mary Dunn tallied her 12th
career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to power Mount
St. Mary's past Penn 60-48 on Tuesday. Hassanah Oliver added 11
points and six assists in the win.
touring the keystone state... Mount St. Mary's
started a two-game trip to Pennsylvania on the eastern part of the
state in Philadelphia on Tuesday with a 60-48 victory at Penn on
Tuesday. After the game against the Quakers, the Mount boarded a
bus for a three-hour ride and 300 miles to Western Pennsylvania to
play Pittsburgh on Thursday.
►The trip to Pittsburgh marks the third of four trips to
Western Pennsylvania. The Mount lost to Duquesne on Nov. 18 and to
Saint Francis (Pa.) on Dec. 6. After facing the Panthers on
Thursday, the squad returns to the Pittsburgh area to face Robert
Morris on Sunday.
next on tap... The Mount restarts league play
at Robert Morris on Sunday. The squad will then travel to
Quinnipiac on Jan. 7 and at Sacred Heart two days later to complete
the nine-game road trip.
►The next time the squad returns to Knott Arena will be on

something cookin'... Freshman Cassie Cooke
posted six points, three steals and two assists in her collegiate
debut against Penn on Dec. 29.
►Cooke, a local product from Westminster, Md., registered
1,082 points, 564 rebounds, 373 assists and 336 steals in her high
school career. She was the 2008 Carroll County Player of the Year.
In addition, she also excelled on the soccer field as well after
being named the Carroll County Player of the Year twice in that
sport.
►The freshman becomes the third player to join the Mount's
women's basketball team from Carroll County, joining Sandy Storey
(Westminster, Md., 1987-87) and Rebecca Wike (Westminster, Md.,
2001-05).

basketball team has been selected to finish eighth, according to
the NEC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Sacred Heart, the defending NEC
regular season and tournament champion, was tabbed as the preseason
favorite after picking up nine of the 12 first-place votes. Saint
Francis (Pa.) earned two first-place nods to finish second while
Central Connecticut State and Robert Morris rounded out the top-4
teams. The Colonials nabbed the final first-place vote. Quinnipiac,
Fairleigh Dickinson, Monmouth, the Mount, Long Island, Bryant,
Wagner and St. Francis (N.Y.) rounded out the 12-team field.
a record-setting defense in 2008-09... Mount
St. Mary's established a new Mount Division I record after
finishing last season holding opponents to 58.2 points per
game.
►The Mount ranked 64th in NCAA Division I in scoring
defense.
►It was the squad's best mark since the 1991-92 season when
the squad helped opponents to 60.9 points per game and was the
third-best mark in program history ranking behind the 1974-75
team's 46.0 points per game allowed and the 1975-76 squad's 56.0
points per game allowed.
going pro... Brianna Gauthier signed a
professional contract to play in Sweeden with the Umea Comets.
►Gauthier was the first Mount player to sign a professional
contract since Dita Krumberga in 2008.
►Whitten has coached four players that have played
