Jeremy Goode Scores 23 in Mount's 78-69 Win over Boston University

Emmitsburg, Md. (November 29, 2008)--Jeremy Goode (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) scored 23 points to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 78-69 win over Boston University on Saturday night at Knott Arena on campus. Senior Markus Mitchell (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) added 10 points and 12 rebounds for his second career double-double in the victory.

With the score tied at 62-62 with 5:44 left in the game, the Mount (2-2) scored six straight points and was able to hold off the Terriers (3-2) for the victory. Kelly Beidler (Virginia Beach, Va./Tallwood) broke the tie with a three-pointer from the right corner. Goode followed with a steal and a lay-up and Mitchell added a free throw to give the Mount a 68-62 advantage with 3:56 left in the game.

Sophomore Shawn Atupem (Newport News, Va./Woodside) added a key rebound basket in the final minute to seal the win. Goode missed a three-pointer to start that possession and Beidler grabbed the rebound. His follow shot was block, but the ball caromed into the rim and Atupem grabbed the board and converted the putback to give the Mount a 74-67 advantage with 43 seconds remaining.

Goode finished with 23 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals in a sensational all-around effort. After going 4-for-10 at the foul line in the Mount's loss at George Mason on Tuesday, Goode was 8-for-8 at the charity stripe tonight. Jean Cajou (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI) added 16 points and five boards while Shawn Atupem chipped in 11 points off the bench in the win.

Boston University kept in the game by hitting 10 three-point baskets. The Terriers finished 10-for-27 (.370) from three-point range in the game. Carlos Strong paced Boston University with 18 points and six boards off the bench while John Holland (17), Corey Lowe (16) and Jake O'Brien (11) also reached double figures.

The Mount held the Terriers to 38.6 percent shooting in the game and held a commanding 46-to-29 advantage on the boards.

In the first half, the Mount jumped to a 13-5 lead five minutes into the contest with Goode scoring eight of those points. The Terriers fought back to take a 24-21 advantage with 8:37 left in the half, but a late 12-to-2 run lifted the Mount to a 40-33 advantage at the half. It is the fourth straight game the Mount has led at the break.
