The Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse team lost at Manhattan,
10-7, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday
afternoon. Eric Seifert scored three times to pace Mount St.
Mary's (1-8, 1-3 MAAC) in the game.
The Mount took an early 1-0 lead on Joe Bello's 12th goal of the
season 1:56 into the game. Manhattan's Brian Wynne answered to tie
the game at 1-1 with an unassisted goal with 8:00 left in the
quarter. Wynne and Brian Murray added second quarter goals to give
the Jaspers (5-5, 2-2 MAAC) a 3-1 advantage at the half.
Manhattan took control by scored four of the first five goals in
the third quarter. Marc Labelle converted an Angelo Marrano feed
1:10 into the quarter for a 4-1 advantage. Murray followed with an
unassisted goal before the Mount's Ben Mundorf stopped the
Manhattan scoring run with a goal with 10:42 left in the third
quarter. Jeremy Marrano and Angelo Marrano scoed 50 seconds apart
to answer Mundorf's marker and give the Jaspers a 7-2 lead with
9:29 left in the third quarter.
The Mount cut into the deficit with goals by Mundorf and Bello,
but Salvatore Spatarella and Matthew Ryan found the back of the
cage for a 9-4 Jasper lead before Seifert scored the first of his
three goals to make the score 9-5 heading into the final
quarter.
Seifert scored twice to cut the Manhattan lead to 9-7, but Luke
Dilillo's tally with 1:39 left in the game rounded out the
scoring.
Murray finished with two goals and an assists while Wynne added
two goals in the win for Manhattan. Goalkeeper John Geagan made 15
saves for the Jaspers.
Seifert finished with three goals while Bello added two goals
and an assist for the Mount. Joe Zolezzi made 11 saves in the
loss.
The Mount returns to action on Saturday, April 18, when Saint
Joseph's visits Waldron Family Stadium for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
