Emmitsburg, Md. (March 28, 2007)--Marist scored four straight
goals to open the third quarter to break open a close game en route
to a 9-5 win over Mount St. Mary's in a Metro Atlantic Athletic
Conference matchup at Waldron Family Stadium on Wednesday
afternoon. Mount goalkeeper Joe Zolezzi made 13 saves in the
loss.
Leading 3-2 at the half, Marist (1-6, 1-1 MAAC) scored the first
four goals of the third quarter to take a commanding 7-2
advantage. Pat Van Hall's extra-man goal 18 seconds into the
quarter started the run. Paul Santavicca and Pete O'Hara then
scored 55 seconds apart for a 6-2 Marist lead 3:46 into the
quarter. Matt Teichmann's goal at the 9:08 mark capped the run.
The Mount's Dave Orban scored an extra-man goal with 3:30 left in
the quarter to cut Marist's lead to 7-3 heading into the fourth
quarter.
Teichmann's fourth goal of the game 54 seconds into the fourth
quarter gave the Red Foxes a five-goal advantage, but the Mount's
Michael Sciulli countered with his first collegiate goal at the
8:47 mark. Marist defender Bill Kolar ended the Mount's come-back
hopes with an unassisted goal 26 seconds later before Joe Bello's
goal rounded out the scoring for the Mount.
Teichman scored with 24 seconds left in the first quarter to
stake Marist to a 1-0 lead. Keith Delelj opened the scoring in the
second quarter for Marist before Eric Seiftert got the Mount on the
board at the 11:34 mark of the second quarter. Teichmann added
another goal that was answered by the Mount's Ben Mundorf to make
the score 3-2 at the half.
Teichmann scored four goals to lead Marist to the victory while
goalkeeper Ryan Penner made 11 saves. Five different Mount players
scored in the game.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Saturday, April 7, when
they travel to Siena for a 1:00 p.m. game.
