Quinnipiac scored 26 straight points to rally from a 17-point
deficit in a 70-62 win over Mount St. Mary's in Northeast
Conference action at the TD Banknorth Center in Hamden, Conn.
Chris Vann paced the Mount with 18 points in the loss.
Leading 31-15 with 5:19 left in the first half, the Mount (8-15,
7-5 NEC) saw Quinnipiac (10-11, 8-4 NEC) score the final 16 points
of the first half, sparked by DeMario Anderson, who scored all 10
of his points over the final 5:37 of the first half. The Mount
started the game quickly, jumping to leads of 10-2 and 25-7 after a
Markus Mitchell lay-up with 8:47 left in the first half.
The run continued
for the Bobcats as they scored the first 10 points of the second
half to grab a 41-31 advantage. The Mount rallied, sparked by
eight points from freshman Will Holland during a 10-2 run that cut
the deficit to 56-53 with 7:12 on the clock. Quinnipiac, however,
answered with eight straight points to seal the win.
Vann finished with
18 points on 8-of-13 shooting while Holland tied a career high with
13 points. Senior Mychal Kearse scored 12 points to extend his
double-figure scoring streak to nine games. Victor Akinyanju was a
dominant figure in the paint for Quinnipiac, posting 20 points and
21 rebounds in teh game. Anderson added 18 points, Adam Gonzalez
14 and Casey Cosgrove 10 in the win.
The Mount shot
44.2 percent from the floor compared to 40.7 percent from
Quinnipiac, but the Bobcats held a 41-30 edge on the boards.
The Mount returns
to action on Thursday, Feb. 8, when Saint Francis (Pa.) visits
Knott Arena for a 7:00 p.m. tilt.
