Emmitsburg, Md. (November 26,
2007)--American defeated Mount St. Mary's, 66-45, in a
non-conference matchup at Knott Arena on Monday night. Sophomore
Jeremy Goode (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day) paced the Mount with
10 points and five assists.
The Eagles (4-3) used a 14-2 run that
spanned the close of the first half and beginning of the second
half to take control of the game. Leading 23-22 with with 5:00
left in the first half, American went on an 8-2 run to grab a 31-24
lead at the half. American opened the second half with a 6-0 run
to take control of the game.
American held the Mount (0-4) to 31.4
percent shooting in the game, including 7-of-26 (.269) in the
second half. American shot 38.6 percent in the game, but held a
45-29 advantage on the board, including 18 on the offensive
glass.
Travis Lay led American with 17 points
and seven boards while Garrison Carr (12), Constantin Motnii (10)
and Brian Gilmore (10) also reached double figures. Goode was the
only Mount player in double figures.
The Mount returns to action on Saturday,
Dec. 1, when longtime rival Loyola visits Knott Arena for the 162nd
meeting in the most played rivalry in the state of Maryland.
