Freshman Jeremy Goode's near triple-double of 18 points, 10
rebounds and nine assists paced Mount St. Mary's past Fairleigh
Dickinson, 74-65, in Northeast Conference action at Knott Arena on
Saturday night. The Mount improves to 8-13 overall and 7-3 in the
NEC with the victory.
Goode was one assist away from the first triple-double in school
history with his performance. Senior Chris Vann added a game-high
22 points (8-11 FG's) while Mychal Kearse (11) and Will Holland
(10) also scored in double figures in the victory.
Cameron Tyler led Fairleigh Dickinson (9-10, 4-4 NEC) with 20
points while Michael Peeples added 14 in the loss. The Mount held
Fairleigh Dickinson's Andre Harris, the NEC's leading scorer, to 11
points, seven below his league-leading average of 18.7.
The Mount rattled off a 12-2 run capped by a Vann three-pointer
that gave the Mount a 58-45 lead with 5:59 left in the game. The
Knights answered with seven straight points to cut the deficit to
six, but the Mount answered with a pair of free throws from Kearse
and a Vann jumper that pushed the margin to 64-54 with 3:41
remaining. The closest Fairleigh Dickinson would get the rest of
the way was nine points.
The Mount took an early 18-10 lead behind five points each from
Kearse and Holland. Fairleigh Dickinson responded with a 12-3 run
to take a 22-21 lead and held a 27-26 advantage with 4:59 left in
the half before the Mount scored eight straight points. The Mount
went to the locker room with a 36-32 lead.
The Mount shot 50.0 percent from the field and was 7-of-13
(.538) from three-point range in the contest. The Knights shot
41.4 percent in the game while the Mount held a 39-to-26 advantage
on the backboards.
The Mount heads to NEC leader Central Connecticut State on
Thursday, Feb. 1, for a 7:00 p.m. tilt.
Game Notes...Goode's 10 rebounds were a career
high while his nine assists matched his personal best...The win was
the Mount's first on a Saturday in seven tries this season...The
Mount snapped a six-game losing streak to the Knights with
tonight's victory...The last Mount win vs. FDU came on Feb. 3,
2003, an 83-81 double-overtime victory at Knott Arena.
