Obie Nwadike scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to pace
Central Connecticut State to a 71-63 win over Mount St. Mary's in
Northeast Conference action on Saturday afternoon. Freshman guard
Jeremy Goode paced the Mount (5-12, 4-2 NEC) with a career high 20
points.
Tristan Blackwood scored 15 of his 18 points in the second half,
including several key baskets, in the victory for Central
Connecticut State (6-10, 3-1 NEC). Blackwood's three-pointer with
15:26 left in the game snapped a 37-37 tie and gave the Blue Devils
the lead for good.
Central Connecticut extended the lead to 52-43, but Mount St.
Mary's answered with a 5-0 run to cut the margin to 52-48 with 6:38
remaining after a Mychal Kearse traditional three-point play.
Blackwood answered with a three-pointer on the next possession and
the Mount would get no closer than five points the rest of the
way.
Goode was 7-for-11 from the field and added three assists to his
career high 20 points for the Mount. Kearse finished with 13
points while Chris Vann chipped in 10 for his 16th-straight game in
double figures. Vann, however, was held without a three-point
field goal for the first time all season.
Nwadike was 6-for-12 from the field and had six offensive
rebounds en route to his double-double of 18 points and 10 boards.
Blackwood finished 4-of-8 from three-point range in the game while
tying for team-high scoring honors with 18 points. Jemino Sobers
chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds in the victory while Javier
Mojica tallied 15 points and seven boards for the Blue Devils.
The Mount returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 18, with a 7:00
p.m. game at St. Francis (Pa.).
