EMMITSBURG, MD (September 4, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's women's soccer begins Metro Conference play Saturday, traveling to Iona to face the Gaels.
MOUNT UPDATE
Last Sunday, the Mount picked up its first draw of the season, forging a 0-0 tie with Richmond. The defense put together a fantastic effort, limiting the Spiders to 10 shots for the match. Abigail Makela recorded her first clean sheet of the season with a pair of saves.
Erin Antone attempted five shots at the Spiders, but the team enters conference play seeking their first goal since
Aayla Burgo's second half score at George Mason on August 23.
SCOUTING THE GAELS
Iona has gone 3-1-1 in non-conference action as they prepared for Metro play. The Gaels defeated LIU, Le Moyne, and Delaware State, while drawing with Lafayette. Dolene Smith leads a group of five goal scorers with three strikes, along with two assists, for a team-high eight points. Kayla Kalbaugh is the primary goalkeeper with 18 saves and three shutouts.
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday marks the seventh meeting between the Mount and Iona. The Mountaineers are seeking their first win since the inaugural match – a non-conference contest in 2011. In Metro games, Iona holds a 3-0-1 advantage.

The home Metro Conference opener will be next Saturday (Sept. 12) against Quinnipiac. Kickoff is at noon from Waldron Family Stadium at the PNC Sports Complex.
