EMMITSBURG, MD (August 12, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's women's soccer begins their 2026 season Thursday, traveling to UMBC for a match with the Retrievers.
2025 RECAP
The team went 3-12-2 last season, including a 1-9-2 mark against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference competitors.
Cassidy Nichols was the team's leading scorer with 10 points, securing four goals and two assists.
Abby Makela finished with 89 of the team's 100 saves.
KEY RETURNERS
Players who scored nine of the team's 14 goals are back for another season. Alongside Nichols,
Joelle Hamel scored twice, and
Erin Antone,
Lillian Young, and Peyton Meara each scored once. Meara also had the most minutes played with 1,413. Other 1,000+ minute players returning are Makela (1,311), Antone (1,280), and
Peyton Gallagher (1,278). All three goalkeepers – Makela,
Anna Joyce, and
Anna Wall – are also back on the roster.
NEWCOMERS
Ten newcomers arrived in Emmitsburg to join the team. One is a sophomore transfer –
Fineen Cregan, who comes from Akron, where she registered five points. The nine freshmen are

METRO PROJECTION
In a release on August 5, the Metro Conference released its Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll. Mount St. Mary's were predicted to finish 12
th with a total of 39 points.
SERIES HISTORY
Thursday marks the 21
st time the Mount and UMBC have faced off against each other. The Retrievers hold a 15-5 series lead. Two of the Mountaineers' five wins came in the past five years – winning matches in 2021 and 2023.

Mount St. Mary's opens their home schedule Sunday (Aug. 16) against Towson. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. from Waldron Family Stadium at the PNC Sports Complex.
