MOUNT UPDATE

In game one of last weekends sweep against Norfolk State, the Mount offense exploded from the plate in the top of the second inning, with an Alex Mendes single to center field sending David Stokely home. Nate Wiles added to the score later in the inning, batting in Mendes and Carson Clark with a one-base knock to right field.

Ty Fredo hit his first home run of the day in the top of the third inning, sending a ball clear over the left field wall. Later in the third, Mike Toth reached base on an error by the third baseman, sending Mendes to the plate once again.

The Spartans finally got on the board in the bottom of the third only for the Mount to hit back with six runs in the top of the fourth. Bryce Rudisill sent a grand slam over the right field wall to start the inning, increasing the game's early score to 9-2. Toth and Clark crossed home plate later in the inning for a commanding 11-2 lead heading into the fifth.

Another Bryce Rudisill driven in run came across home plate in the top of the sixth, with the Gettysburg native batting in Stokely on an infield single. Fredo sent out his second and final home run of the afternoon in the eighth inning, rounding out a commanding win in game one of the weekend.

Rudisill led the way from the plate on Friday, going 2-4 from the plate with five RBIs and a Grand Slam. Fredo also went 2-4 on the day with two home runs, scoring three runs and batting in two while working two walks in the process. And Alex Mendes went 3-3 against the Spartans in game one, batting in a run while swiping three bags on the basepaths.

On the mound, Serigne Sarre was accredited with his first win of the year for his 6.1 innings of work, striking 11 batters while allowing two hits against the Spartans. Koen Bowling featured out of the bullpen for two thirds of an inning, getting out of a sticky situation with runners on base, striking out two to end the seventh inning.

In game two, Norfolk State's Journette led the Spartans to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, hitting a long ball off of Eli DeRossi. But a Christian Bauman single to right field sent Joey Agar to home plate, tying the game in the top of the third.

Norfolk State regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth as the Spartans hit out a three-run home run to take a 4-1 lead. But, a resurgent Mount offensive attack took the lead in the top of the fifth inning off of an Evan Meier fielder's choice that scored Phoenix Williams. David Stokely came to bat later in the inning and with the bases loaded, promptly sent a ball over the fence for the Mount's second Grand Slam of the weekend.

The Spartans found some room in the bottom of the ninth, scoring a run off a fielder's choice with two outs on the board. But JB Manarchuck outpaced the final batter of the afternoon, producing a groundout back to the mound to wrap the game and the win up in the ninth.

From the fifth inning of game three against the Spartans on, Mount St. Mary's baseball was in control in the series finale against Norfolk State, leading to a decisive 24-7 win to sweep the three-game set.

Batters for the Mount collected 23 hits and earned eight walks on the afternoon. Bryce Rudisill went 5-for-7 at the dish, while the trio of Christian Bauman, Ty Fredo, and Alex Mendes drove in a combined 16 runs with Bauman earning six RBIs and scoring five runs. Six members of the starting lineup had multi-hit games, as did Evan Meier, who came in as a substitute.

Pitchers combined to strike out 12 Spartans. Jakob Foster logged three innings with no earned runs to receive the win. He, Owen Crowe, Jackson Snyder, and Riley Williams registered three strikeouts each.

Bauman made the first impression on offense with a three-run homer in the third inning. Norfolk State were able to counter with small ball to lead 4-3 after four innings. In the fifth, the Mount tied the game on a David Stokely sacrifice fly. Rudisill and Mendes followed with RBI base knocks to put the visitors ahead 6-4.

A four-run inning put the contest firmly in the Mount's corner, capped off by another two-run single from Mendes for a 10-4 lead. They would put runs on the board every inning the rest of the way – one more in the seventh, another four spot in the eighth, and nine runs in the ninth.
