EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 7, 2026) – With
Alana Powell and
Amber Bullard carrying the freight on this Saturday, Mount St. Mary's women's basketball rallied after trailing most of the way to force overtime and take a victory over Sacred Heart, 68-63.
Two days after registering a career high, Powell upped the ante with a 28 point showing. The junior went 10-for-18 from the floor and a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe. Bullard finished with a double-double featuring a career-high 23 points along with 11 rebounds, going 10-for-17 from the field. The pair of 20-plus efforts marks the first such instance for the Mount since Kendall Bresee and Kayla Agentowicz combined for 50 points in a game against UMES back in 2021.
With the win, Mount St. Mary's moves back to .500 for the season at 12-12, and on the plus side of .500 for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) campaign at 8-7.
Sacred Heart had three players in double figures, led by Amelia Wood's 15 points. The Pioneers now stand at 11-13 (9-6 MAAC).
HOW THE GAME UNFOLDED
- Mount St. Mary's had the upper hand for the bulk of the first quarter. A two-pointer by Zaria Harleaux and free throws from Giana Hoddinott opened a 13-8 lead.
- Sacred Heart rallied to take a slim 16-15 edge into the second quarter but outscored the Mount 18-11 to lead 34-26 at halftime.
- Powell and Bullard posted the first two buckets of the second half to bring the visitors back within two possessions. A late Bullard layup placed the margin at 44-39 Pioneers entering the fourth quarter.
- Baskets by Powell, Jaedyn Jamison, and Berlynn Carlson brought the contest back within a single possession. Foul shots by Powell at 3:34 gave the Mount its first lead since the opening frame at 53-52.
- Sacred Heart made foul shots at the line to lead 58-55 with 25 seconds remaining.
- Bullard hit a jumper with 14 seconds left to make it 58-57, and the Pioneers converted one of two at the line. Powell took advantage of a fastbreak to score the game tying layup with six ticks left.
- Mount finished off the game with a 7-0 run in the extra session.
