Second Half Blitz Leads Mount St. Mary's Past Canisius, 68-47

Emmitsburg, Md. (February 22, 2026)--Mount St. Mary's opened the second half with a 32-6 run to fuel a 68-47 victory over Canisius on Sunday afternoon at Knott Arena.  The Mount has won four games in a row to improve to 14-15 overall and 10-8 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.  

Trailing 24-20 at the half, the Mount opened the second stanza with a 32-6 blitz to take control of the game.  Lipscomb and Keyes opened the half with back-to-back three-pointers to put the Mount on top, 26-24.  Keyes scored on a fast-break lay-up, Amadi hit 1-of-2 at the line, and Keyes scored back-to-back lay-up to cap a 13-0 run for a 33-24 lead just three minutes into the second half.  A 7-0 run capped by a Patrick Haigh three-pointer built the Mount advantage to 42-28, and after a pair of Canisius free throws, the Mount rattled off the next eight points for a 52-30 lead with 10:08 remaining.  Deveaux started the run with a bucket in the paint, Abdou Khadre Kebe added traditional three-point play on a tip-in dunk, Lipscomb drained a three-pointer, and Luke McEldon slammed a dunk to put the Mount up by 22 points.  The Mountaineers maintained a comfortable lead from there to close out the victory.

Keyes led the Mount with 14 points, seven assists and six steals while Lipscomb chipped in 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting.  Amadi added eight points and five rebounds, McEldon eight points and seven boards with Haigh and Yakhya Diop each scoring five in the victory.  Kahlil Singleton led Canisius with 15 points while Bryan Ndjonga adding 13 in the loss.  The Mount shot 45.5 percent in the game, including a scoring 61.3 percent (19-of-31) in the second half.  The Mount held Canisius to 35.6 percent shooting in the contest, the seventh time over the past 10 games the Mount has held the opposition under 39 percent from the floor.

Canisius led 24-20 at the half as the Mount was just 6-of-24 (.250) from the field with nine turnovers in the opening 20 minutes.  The Golden Griffins had a 24-16 lead late in the half, but a pair of Lipscomb free throws and a McEldon putback bucket the buzzer made it a four-point game.  

MAAC TOURNAMENT PICTURE:  With the win, the Mount remained in a tie for sixth place in the MAAC standings with Fairfield with both teams owing 10-8 MAAC records.  The top six teams in the standings earn a bye in the First Round of the MAAC Tournament which will be held March 5-10 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.  Quinnipiac is in fifth place with an 11-7 league mark while Manhattan and Iona are tied for eighth at 8-10.  Mount St. Mary's plays at Fairfield on the final day of the regular season.

GAME NOTES
  • Prior to the game, the Mount honored eight seniors: Justin Amadi, Anthony Arrington, Jr.Trey Deveaux, Patrick Haigh, Arlandus Keyes, Xavier Lipscomb, John Miller IV and manager Brandon Buschman.
  • Deveaux reached 1,000 points for his collegiate career with a fast-break dunk with 13:25 remaining in the second half.  Deveaux finished with four points and now has 1,002 points at the NCAA level.  Deveaux scored 463 points at Wayne State in 2023-24, 262 at Western Illinois last year, and has 277 at the Mount this season.
  • Mount St. Mary's has won three in a row against Canisius and is now 8-2 all-time against the Golden Griffins.  The Mount has a 6-1 record against Canisius in MAAC regular season game.
  • John Miller IV made his first collegiate start for the Mount.  He started alongside fellow seniors Xavier Lipscomb, Justin Amadi, Arlandus Keyes and Trey Deveaux.
  • Arlandus Keyes has recorded six steals in each of the past two games. He is averaging 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 6.0 steals over the past two contests.
