BUFFALO, N.Y. (February 21, 2026) – Ahead 54-44 in the fourth quarter, Mount St. Mary's women's basketball looked poised to take a road sweep in Buffalo. But Canisius battled back with a 13-3 run to tie the game in regulation before winning in overtime, 68-63.
10 different players scored for the Mount, led by
Alana Powell with 13 – 11 of which came in the first half.
Kayla Lindsey was the second half sparkplug, finishing with 11 points while also leading the team with seven rebounds.
Canisius received 19 points from Shariah Gailes, with 12 from Yasmine Djibril and 12 from Franka Wittenberg.
Mount St. Mary's is 13-14 on the year and 9-9 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) following the result. Canisius is 5-22 (3-15 MAAC) with the victory.
HOW THE GAME UNFOLDED
- Canisius took command of the first quarter by shooting 57 percent from the floor. Powell kept the Mount in the game with seven points in the frame.
- Both defenses clamped down in the second quarter. Late baskets by the Mount brought the score to 27-23 Golden Griffins at halftime.
- Lindsey scored on a reverse layup near the end of the third to give the Mountaineers their first lead at 39-37. Berlynn Carlson chipped in a three as the visitors were up 44-39 entering the final period.
- A 12-5 run gave the Mount a 10-point lead, capped off by a three-pointer from Giana Hoddinott.
- The Golden Griffins rallied, and a Wittenberg layup with 16.8 seconds left forced overtime.
- Jaedyn Jamison hit a floater for a brief 61-59 Mount lead, but Canisius ended the game on a 9-2 run to take the win.
