EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 26, 2026) – Using another gutsy performance, Mount St. Mary's held off a strong Sacred Heart team to earn a 66-61 win at Knott Arena Thursday night.
Four players reached double figures for the Mount, led by 16 from
Amber Bullard.
Alana Powell chipped in 14, including a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line.
Nyodie Guerard tied her career high of 11 points, hitting a trio of three-pointers along the way.
Giana Hoddinott scattered 10 points, going 4-for-8 from the field.
Sacred Heart got two double-doubles – Emma Kirby earned 17 points and 10 rebounds while Amelia Wood finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Nalyce Dudley led the contest with 19 points.
Both teams are now 10-9 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) this season. They sit in a three-way tie with Siena for fifth place.
HOW THE GAME UNFOLDED
- Each team had a major run in the first quarter. The Mount jumped out to a 9-0 lead, capped off by two free throws from Wesleigh Ferguson. Down 12-3, Sacred Heart pieced together a 10-0 run to go up 13-12. Another 9-1 run from the Mount handed the home side a 21-14 lead entering the second quarter.
- Two late three-pointers from Sacred Heart made a slight dent in the Mount's advantage, who remained ahead 33-28 at half.
- Both sides matched each other in the third quarter, with the Mountaineers fending off a charge by SHU with a Hoddinott three and six points from Bullard.
- Kirby hit an and-one for the Pioneers to cap off an early fourth period outburst to earn their first lead since the 13-12 mark at 51-50. The game built up to a 52-52 tie with 5:49 to go.
- Guerard came through in the clutch with a pair of three-pointers, the latter of which put the Mount ahead for good. Critical free throws from Powell and Jaedyn Jamison put the contest away.
NOTEWORTHY ITEMS
- In a rare occurrence, Mount won the game despite being outshot percentage wise and outrebounded. Both mark only the third time all season the Mount won on both accounts.
- Head Coach Antoine White picked up his 50th conference win with the victory. He is 50-45 in league play between the MAAC and the Northeast Conference.
