JERSEY CITY, N.J. (January 30, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's men's basketball fell to Saint Peter's in New Jersey on Friday night by a score of 66-58 at Run Baby Run Arena. With the loss, the Mountaineers fall to 5-7 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference while sliding to an overall record of 9-14.
Justin Amadi led the Mountaineer offense against Saint Peter's, scoring 18 points and grabbing six rebounds for the Mount.
Xavier Lipscomb followed suit, scoring 11 points while dishing out three assists and grabbing three boards. Abdou Khadre Kébé grabbed a team leading eight rebounds against the Peacocks, adding seven points to the team tally. And
Luke McEldon scored seven points from inside the paint, adding two blocks on defense against Saint Peter's.
Overall, the Mount went 20-49 from the field, shooting 44.4% from the floor in the first half alone. The Mountaineers outscored the Peacocks 28-220 in the paint while the Mount bench added 23 points to the final tally. The lead in Jersey City changed 10 times across the 40 minutes of play, with scores tied on five occasions.
Saint Peter's got the game started on a 4-0 run, adding a made field goal and two made free throws within the first two minutes. Kébé got the scoring started for the Mount thirty seconds later, converting on a jumper in the paint. Lead changes ensued between the two teams for the next 13 minutes before a 10-0 Mountaineer run started with six and a half minutes left in the half. Amadi and McEldon went back-to-back in the paint before Amadi scored four more in succession, with
Trey Deveaux capping off the run with a basket.
The Peacocks started a run of their own with two minutes left, outscoring the Mount 9-2 with three made three-pointers. After the final Peacock three-pointer with 13 seconds left on the clock,
Arlandus Keyes took the ball out at the point, nailing a deep three-pointer with time elapsing, sending the Mount into the halftime team talk with a narrow 33-32 lead.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first three minutes of the second before a made free throw by McEldon broke the deadlock. Scores once again changed three or so minutes before a made three-pointer from Anthony Arrington jr. cut the Mount deficit to two points. Amadi once again scored in the paint only for Saint Peter's to regain the lead on the next possession. A made three-pointer by Lipscomb sent the Mount into the under-12 media timeout up five.
Another Lipscomb three-pointer came three minutes after the game resumed before McEldon once again converted in the paint for a score. Saint Peter's found themselves at the line six times in the next three minutes, with one of their visits ending Keyes's night, fouling out with 7:36 left in the game. From then on, the momentum swung towards the Peacocks, as Saint Peter's outscored Mount St. Mary's 20-8 for the rest of the game.
