EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 18, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's women's basketball returns to Emmitsburg on Monday for a Monday matinee game against Niagara at 1:00 p.m. The Mountaineers arrive at Jim Phelan Court off the back of a 71-64 win over Canisius on Saturday.
MOUNT UPDATE
Along with
Giana Hoddinott's 16-point night against the Golden Griffins, a career best, three more Mountaineers reached double-digits, with
Amber Bullard scoring 15 points,
Alana Powell scoring 11 points, and
Jaedyn Jamison scoring 10 points. Bullard and Hoddinott both recorded five rebounds each, with the junior from Philadelphia grabbing four offensive rebounds. Along with her 10 points, Powell recorded four rebounds and six assists. And
Kayla Lindsey recorded eight points in the win, recording five steals in transition.
Overall, the Mountaineers grabbed a total of 33 rebounds in the win, with 15 total boards under the opponent's basket. The team also forced 31 turnovers against Canisius, pressuring the Golden Griffins in the press.
The Mountaineers started the first half on a 4-0 run thanks to two layups in the paint from Bullard and Jamison. Canisius and Mount St. Mary's traded blows for the rest of the quarter before a Golden Griffins three-pointer with nine seconds left on the clock sent the visitors into the first intermission up 18-14.
To start the second, both teams, traded shots, with the Mountaineers trailing by two points with four minutes left in the period. A
Lenora Nkangwen put back tied things up in the quarter, opening the way for a Jamison three-pointer and jumper in the paint to unfold, extending the Mount lead to five. To end the quarter, both teams traded layups in the paint to head into halftime with the Mount narrowly edging the visitors 4-32.
Much like the first two quarters, the third period remained very back and fourth between the two teams, with no one squad surpassing a four-point lead to start. Canisius opened up a sizeable seven-point gap with four minutes on the clock, but with fastbreak offense, the Mountaineers were able to tie things up 49-49 at the end of the quarter thanks to a
Kayla Lindsey free-throw.
Canisius opened up a early five-point lead to start the half before a jumper and a fast break from Powell tied things up once more. Another Golden Griffins turnover turned into a
Wesleigh Ferguson Lay up to take a 56-55 lead with 5:43 left. But the turning point came thirty second later, as another Canisius turnover led to a knock-down three-pointer by Powell, forcing the Golden Griffins to take a timeout, sending the Mountaineer bench mad. From then on, the Mountaineers never looked back, opening as much of a eight point lead, finally recording the victory.
