Mount St. Mary's Men's Basketball Picked Ninth in MAAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll

Atlantic City, N.J. (September 30, 2025)--
Defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) champion Mount St. Mary's has been picked to finish ninth in the annual MAAC Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced today by the conference office.  Graduate student Xavier Lipscomb was named Third Team Preseason All-MAAC.

Lipscomb started all 36 games for the Mountaineers last season, averaging 6.8 points, 4.3 assists and 4.2 rebounds in a team-high 33.5 minutes per game.   Lipscomb scored in double figures 10 times last season, scoring a season-high 12 points on a pair of occasions.  His best game of the season was in the Mount's win over Sacred Heart, recording 10 points and a career-high 13 assists for his first career double-double.  

Quinnipiac was tabbed as the preseason favorite in the poll, finishing with 158 points and eight first-place votes.  Siena (152), Sacred Heart (140), Manhattan (133), Marist (115), Iona (104), Merrimack (85), Fairfield (74), Mount St. Mary's (69), Rider (59), Saint Peter's (48), Niagara (26) and Canisius (20) round out the poll.

The MAAC Basketball Tip-Off show will air on ESPN+ on Tuesday beginning at 10:00 a.m.  The Mount's portion of the interviews will be from 11:13-11:21 am.  The link is at the top of the story.

The Mountaineers won the 2025 MAAC Tournament last season, finishing with a 23-13 overall record.  The Mount went 12-4 over the final 16 games, rattling off wins over Marist, Merrimack and Iona in Atlantic City to capture the school's first MAAC Championship after joining the league for the 2022-23 season.  The Mount advanced to the NCAA Tournament, posting an 83-72 win over American in the First Four before falling to top-seeded Duke in the NCAA First Round.  

Mount St. Mary's opens the 2025-26 season with an exhibition game at Hood College on Wednesday, October 29.  The Mount opens the regular season at West Virginia on Tuesday, November 4, before welcoming Bucknell to Knott Arena for the home opener on Friday, November 7, at 7:00 p.m.  The Mount will drop the banner for its 2025 MAAC Championship prior to the game.  For tickets, contact the Mount ticket office at 301-447-5700 or go online at www.mountathletics.com/tickets.
