Goals Aplenty as Mount Women’s Soccer Defeats Delaware State, 4-2

EMMITSBURG, Md. (August 31, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's soccer found the back of the net four times on the way to a 4-2 victory over Delaware State Sunday. The team earned their second consecutive win to improve to 2-3 this season.

Josie Stockett secured her first goals as a Mountaineer, delivering on two shots for the brace. Cassidy Nichols hit home the third goal, which proved to be the game winner – her second in as many games. Erin Antone started the barrage with a goal in the fifth minute. Nicole Wilson, Nichols, Peyton Gallagher, Jasmine Sims, and Lillian Young all received credit for assists.

Delaware State kept the pressure on Mount St. Mary's with goals by Yazmeen Smith and Frederika Kibassa Maliba Ntumba. The Hornets fall to 2-2 this year.

After Antone posted her goal, Smith responded to equalize. Stockett's first broke the deadlock but was countered by Ntumba on the Hornets' end. Nichols' game winner came in the 58th minute with Stockett's brace providing insurance in the 68th minute.

A competitive match throughout, the Mount edged the Hornets 12-10 in shots. Abigail Makela recorded five saves to helped cement the win. Johoanna Lynn Hornyak and Azjah Tocher combined for three Delaware State saves.

Mount St. Mary's now turns to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play next Saturday (Sept. 6), traveling to face the Merrimack Warriors.
