Towson, Md. (August 17, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's soccer lost their second away match of the year by a 5-0 scoreline at Towson. With the loss, the Mount falls to a 0-2 start on the year and their sixth loss in a row to the Tigers, with Sunday's match up being the first time the two have met since 2023.
Two Towson shots found the back of the net in the first half after a gallant, eight save first half from
Abigail Makela in goal. The Mountaineers attempted four shots against the Tigers in the first half with two shots on goal in the half.
Joelle Hamel took the first shot in the 12
th minute and
Payton Meara attempted at goal in the 25
th minute.
Both
Erin Antone and
Josie Stockett's shots in the first half found their way to the keeper in both the 16
th and 43
rd minutes respectively to no avail as the Mount went into the locker room down at the half.
Head coach
Liis Abbott made substantial changes coming into the second half, including giving
Anna Wall her collegiate debut in goal, with the freshman from Severn, Maryland making three saves in between the posts for the Mount in the second half.
The Mount recorded 11 total saves in the game with time split between Makela and Wall, out saving Towson 11-2. But the Mount fell short in creating attacking opportunities, only drawing three corner kicks to Towson's seven, rounding out a tough away loss.
