Women’s Soccer Completes Road Swing at Penn

EMMITSBURG, Md. (August 24, 2025) – Rounding out their three-match road swing to open the season, Mount St. Mary's women's soccer battled Penn Sunday at Rhodes Field in Philadelphia. After holding their own in a defensive struggle early, the Mountaineers saw the Quakers pull away with four goals in the second half on the way to a 5-0 decision.

In the first half, the Mount's defense kept Penn at bay with denials over 30 minutes and eight chances by the Quakers. The home side broke the ice via a free kick strike from Mallory Lucas. Abbey Cook set the tone with Penn's second goal four minutes into the second half. Goals by Lauren Stevens, Mia Fuss, and Leigha Matter followed.

Three Mountaineers combined to register four shots, two of which were on goal. Joelle Hamel shot the ball twice with one on goal, and Peyton Gallagher and Ines Gama Ferreira recorded one shot each. Abigail Makela finished the match with three saves, and Anna Joyce added one.

Next up for the Mount is the 2025 home opener as the team welcomes Shepherd to Waldron Family Stadium. Kickoff is 7 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 27).
