EMMITSBURG, Md. (August 14, 2025) – In a high scoring affair, two Mount St. Mary's women's soccer players notched goals in the season debut against Delaware. The Blue Hens were able to outmatch the Mountaineers in a 5-2 final score.
Taylor Simmons got the Mount's first goal of the campaign with a strike in the 16
th minute, as
Erin Antone delivered a ball that clipped over the body of Delaware keeper Sophia Hill. The score was the third in Simmons' career. In the second half,
Cassidy Nichols recorded her first Mountaineer goal with an 84
th minute shot. Simmons provided the assist on the strike.
At the goalie position, Abigail Makaela and
Anna Joyce each took one half in net. Joyce recorded three saves in her first career college game.
Delaware posted the first goal of the contest in the eighth minute, courtesy of Maggie Groh. A late first half concession to Adiat Olaogun-Dickson gave the Blue Hens a 2-1 lead at the break. Groh recorded a brace in the second half followed by late goals from Olivia Bley and Taisya Reid.
Mount St. Mary's continues their season-opening road stretch on Sunday (Aug. 17) with a trip to play the Towson Tigers. A 6 p.m. kickoff is scheduled.
