MOUNT STORY LINES
  • Carmelo Pacheco capped a wild ending with a game-winning three-pointer with 1.6 seconds left to lift the Mount to an 84-83 win at Niagara on Friday night.  Trailing 83-80 after a pair of free throws by Niagara's Zion Russell with 9.6 seconds remaining, the Mount's Xavier Lipscomb was fouled with 5.2 seconds on the clock.  Lipscomb headed to the line for a 1-and-1 and calmly sank the first shot.  The Mount had perfect execution on missing the second free throw on purpose.  Lipscomb shot the ball quickly, and Terrell Ard Jr. was first in the lane to grab the rebound.  He fed Pacheco on the left wing, and the sophomore swished home the go-ahead bucket with 1.6 seconds on the clock for the game-winning basket.
  • Mount St. Mary's holds a 5-2 lead in the all-time series with Canisius, but the Golden Griffins have won the past two matchups, including a 77-61 victory in the MAAC Tournament Opening Round last season.  The Mount and Canisius have met in the MAAC Opening Round in each of the last two seasons with the Mount taking a 67-66 overtime win in 2023.
  • Mount St. Mary's has won three consecutive road games, improving to 8-6 on the road this year.  It is the first time since joining the MAAC for the 2022-23 season that the Mount has won three MAAC road games in a row.
  • The Mountaineers improved to 11-0 this season when scoring 70 or more points in the 84-83 win at Niagara on Friday night.
  • Carmelo Pacheco hit the game-winning three-pointer with 1.6 seconds left in the Mount's 84-83 win at Niagara on Friday night.  Pacheco finished the game with 13 points, hitting 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.  Pacheco is shooting 45.7 percent (58-of-127) from three-point range on the season, and is even better in MAAC play, shooting 48.6 percent (35-of-72) in league games.  Pacheco is third in the MAAC in three-point percentage.
  • Dallas Hobbs led the Mount with 21 points in the 84-83 win at Niagara on Friday night.  Hobbs has tallied 20 or more points in two of the past three games, averaging a team-high 19.3 points over that span.
  • Mount St. Mary's heads home for a pair of games next week, hosting Saint Peter's on Friday, February 21, at 7 pm and Rider on Sunday, February 23, at 2 pm.  Click HERE for ticket information.
