PITTSBURGH, Pa. (November 8, 2025) –Mount St. Mary's women's basketball had a strong second half in their contest with the Pittsburgh Panthers, but the first half deficit was too much to overcome in a 66-52 defeat.
Gabrielle Kennerly registered her first 20-point effort since November 10 of last year, going 6-for-17 from the floor, 4-for-10 from downtown, and a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
Alana Powell added 10 points.
As a team, the Mount doubled the Panthers in steals, 15-7. Powell and
Giana Hoddinott shared the individual lead with three each.
HOW THE GAME UNFOLDED
- Powell scored her first Mount points and the first points of the game with a charity stripe make.
- Kennerly, Teodora Ivanovic, and Erin Edmonds hit first quarter field goals.
- Pitt cemented their edge with a 14-0 run, carrying into the second quarter, for a 30-8 lead.
- Mount scored five of the next seven after the run, with Kennerly, Ivanovic and Hoddinott all contributing.
- The Panthers led 41-18 at the break. Kennerly led Mount at the half with seven points.
- Mount St. Mary's outpaced the Panthers in the third by a margin of 21-14. Six different players tallied points for the team, led by six from Kennerly and five from Edmonds.
- Powell hit a triple at the 58-44 mark which halved the deficit.
- The Mount cut it as low as 13 on two occasions, but Pitt hit free throws down the stretch to prevent any more comeback attempts.
NOTEWORTHY ITEMS
- Hoddinott scored her 250th career point with a layup at the :54 mark of the second quarter.
- Ivanovic was the Mount's leader in rebounds with six.
- The last occurrence where the Mount played this close to a Power 4 opponent was January 1, 2014 – an 81-67 defeat to Boston College. The Mountaineers went to the WNIT that year.
- The Mountaineers fell to 0-10 all-time versus Pitt.
