EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 9, 2025) – After a promising first half, Mount St. Mary's women's basketball struggled in the second half, falling 75-47 to the Manhattan Jaspers Thursday at Knott Arena.
Anna LeMaster possessed the most points for the Mount, scoring 14 of them.
Gabrielle Kennerly added 11, and
Jo Raflo earned 10 to post double figures. For Manhattan, Ines Giménez Monserratt registered a game-high 16 points.
Mount St. Mary's falls to 3-10 (1-3 MAAC) this season. Manhattan is now 8-6 (2-3 MAAC).
Both sides hit at almost every chance early on, with the Mountaineers and Jaspers matching each other shot for shot. Things would cool down some, but Mount would shoot 56 percent to Manhattan's 53 as the teams duked it out to a 23-22 Mountaineers lead after the first quarter. The home side started out strong in the second frame, leading by as much as nine on a Raflo triple with 8:05 left. Manhattan would nibble at the advantage, culminating in a three from Nitzan Amar at the halftime horn to pull the game within 36-32.
Raflo began the third quarter with a jumper, but the tide turned quick to the visiting Jaspers. Bolstered by an 11-0 run, Manhattan blazed forward, tallying 23 points to the Mount's five. They continued that trend in the fourth quarter, posting another 20 on the beleaguered Mountaineers to rubber stamp their way to victory.
Heading to Connecticut Saturday (Jan. 11), the Mountaineers take on Sacred Heart. The Pioneers – once Northeast Conference foes – meet the Mount for the first time since their joining the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
