Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Three’s Fly as the Mount Bests Sacred Heart 75-51 in Connecticut

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (January 11, 2024)- After a tough end to the Manhattan game on January 9 in Emmitsburg, Mount St. Mary's women's basketball claimed a bounce back 75-51 win against Sacred Heart on Saturday at the William H. Pitt Center in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Jo Raflo led the team in scoring with 22 points followed by Gabrielle Kennerly with 15 points and Anna LeMaster with 13 points. Raflo also went 6-7 from beyond the three-point arc. Giana Hoddinott led the team in disposals with six assists and three steals in transition.

The Mountaineers tallied 33 total rebounds, with LeMaster, Raflo, and Madison Ruff all grabbing six boards apiece. Scoring efforts came from all over the court as the team went 26-for-44 from the field including a mammoth 15-for-29 from three. A 51.7 three-point shooting percentage as well as the made baskets against the Pioneers is tied for the third most three-pointers made during a game, with those matchups against Bryant and Marist in 2014 and 2023 respectfully being composed of 15 three pointers as well.

In the first quarter, the Mountaineers quickly began to out pace Pioneers, going 5-8 from three and 7-11 overall from the field. A quick succession of three from Raflo and LeMaster put the Mount up 21-13 going into the first intermission.

A very similar second quarter was played by the Mount, matching the 21 points scored and the 5-8 from beyond the arc.

Consistent basketball was played in the third quarter when once again the Mount went 5-8 from three as well as 21 more points scored. A 12-point fourth quarter capped off a dominant team win as the Mountaineers move to 4-10 overall with a 2-3 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference record.

The Mount returns on Thursday, January 16 to face off against Rider at home in Emmitsburg at 7:00 p.m.
