EMMITSBURG, Md. (January 16, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's basketball was victorious against Rider on Thursday night with a 66-60 win in Emmitsburg. This win makes it two victories in a row for the Mountaineers as their winning ways from last weekend continued against the Broncs.
Jo Raflo put 28 points past the Broncs while going 8-12 from the field and 6-8 for three. Raflo also grabbed eight total rebounds, with two offensive and six defensive rebounds.
Gabrielle Kennerly had a career night in the steals category with four steals against and
Rosa Revueltas Pareja recorded seven total rebounds, a career high for the Spaniard.
In the first quarter, the Mountaineers came out firing, with Raflo, Kennerly, and
Anna LeMaster all getting on the board for a 26-18 lead. The team went 9-16 from the field while shooting 50% from the three-point arc.
At the start of the second, both the Mount and Rider exchanged fouls early to stifle good shots in the paint while threes continued to come in for the Mount. With both teams scoring 13 points in the quarter, the Mount took a respectable 39-31 lead into the halftime break.
To start the third quarter, the Broncs held the Mount scoreless for the opening five minutes before a foul on Raflo from beyond the arc caused a four-point play and a resumption of the Mountaineers offense leading to a 51-43 lead heading into the final quarter.
Points were still exchanged back and forth to start the fourth quarter but a clutch three-pointer from LeMaster all but tied things up. Fouling ensued on the part of the Broncs, but it was too late to mount a tangible comeback before the final buzzer went.
