Second Half Dooms Mount St. Mary's in Loss to Quinnipiac

Emmitsburg, Md. (January 18, 2025)--Quinnipiac outscored Mount St. Mary's, 55-22, in the second half to pull away for a 91-57 victory at Knott Arena on Saturday afternoon.  Carmelo Pacheco hit five three-pointers to lead the Mount with 15 points in the loss.  The Mountaineers fall to 11-7 on the season and 4-3 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

The Mount got out to the early lead with Arlandus Keyes hitting a pair of three-pointers as the Mount held an 8-to-4 advantage.  The Bobcats (11-8, 7-1 MAAC) responded with a 16-to-5 run to take a 20-13 advantage seven minutes into the game.  Trailing 25-17, scored the next six points, capped by a Jedy Cordilia and-one dunk in transition.  The Mountaineers continued to hang tough and took a 33-32 advantage on a Pacheco three-pointer with 1:40 left in the half.  A Keyes basket in transition put the Mount ahead, 35-33, but Quinnipiac's Alexis Reyes hit a three to put the Bobcats on top, 36-35, at the break.

The Mount took the lead, 37-36, on a Keyes floater to start the second half, but from there, it was all Quinnipiac.  The Bobcats outscored the Mount, 33-to-6, over the first 10 minutes of the half to take control of the game.  Quinnipiac led by as many as 36 points en route to the win.

Pacheco led the Mount with 15 points, hitting 5-of-9 from three-point range.  Dola Adebayo added 12 points and four rebounds while Keyes finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists.  Quinnipiac shot 61.3 percent from the field in the second half while hitting 14-of-31 (.452) from three-point range in the game.  The Mount shot 35.0 percent in the game, hitting 11-of-32 (.344) from beyond the arc.

GAME NOTES
  • This is the first time the Mount has lost consecutive games all season.  Entering today, the Mount had been 5-0 after a loss.
  • The all-time series with Quinnipiac is now even at 16-16.
  • With his five three-pointers, Carmelo Pacheco now has seven games this season with four or more made three-pointers.  He is 23-for-50 (.460) from beyond the arc over his past seven games.
  • Keyes pulled down a career high eight rebounds in the game.
  • The Mount falls to 6-2 at home this season.

  • The Mount heads to Siena on Thursday, January 23, for a 7:00 p.m. matchup.  The Mount then comes home to host Manhattan for Homecoming on Saturday, January 25, at 4 pm at Knott Arena.
