EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 5, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's men's soccer heads to Philadelphia to face off with the La Salle Explorers, looking to notch one for the win column.
MOUNT UPDATE
Lightning forced a postponement of the Mount's match with Bucknell last week. The Bison got two goals – one per half – to come away with the 2-0 win.
Julian Marcos secured six saves for the Mountaineers.
All three goals for the team came in the draw with Robert Morris.
Abou Cherif scored two of the goals, and
Junee Lee punched home the third. Eliot O'Neal and
Dominik Topolsky added assists in that contest.
SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS
La Salle also comes into Friday's match seeking their first win on the season. After a scoreless draw with Lehigh, the Explorers fell to NJIT 3-0 and Drexel 3-2. Yuval Nimrodi and Sean Yurgel posted the team's first scores in the Drexel game. Splitting between goalies, Tino Kneis have eight saves in two starts and Jules Dechert has five in one appearance.
THE ALL-TIME SERIES
Mount St. Mary's and La Salle have met three times in the past, with the Explorers winning two of three. In their last meeting, La Salle took a 5-3 decision in a February 2021 game during the COVID-shortended season.
When traveling to the City of Brotherly Love, the Mount is 2-3, with the team defeating Philadelphia University in 1998 and Saint Joseph's in 2006.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Mountaineers remain on the road for a Tuesday (Sept. 10) evening matchup with the Delaware Blue Hens. Game time is 7 p.m. from Newark.
