Strong Second Half Sends Mount Women’s Soccer to Victory Over Sacred Heart

EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 28, 2024) – Goals by Nathalie Mejia and Sydoney Clarke broke through a 1-1 halftime deadlock and handed Mount St. Mary's women's soccer a 3-1 triumph over Sacred Heart Saturday.

With their second consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) win, the Mount now stands at 5-5 for the year and 2-2 in conference play.

The duo once propelled the Mountaineers to the victory on offense, with Clarke earning a brace by pairing her first half penalty with her second half insurance strike. Mejia gets credit for the game winner with her go-ahead goal in the 61st minute. Luisangely Navas provided an assist on Clarke's second half effort.

Clarke continues to lead the team in goals, increasing her total to six. Mejia now has two goals in as many games.

Mount St. Mary's finished with three unanswered goals after Sacred Heart took the initial lead on a penalty 1:06 into the game. Shea Kelleher was the Pioneers' goal scorer.

Penalty exempted, Mountaineers goalie Adelaide Paredes provided an exemplary outing, completing four saves. The freshman now has 50 saves for the season.

The Mountaineers return home Wednesday (Oct. 2), looking to make it three in a row against the Manhattan Jaspers. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. from Waldron Family Stadium.
