EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 28, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's men's rugby lost a close game to Life today after a try by the Running Eagles scored in the 76^th minute put the game out of reach for the Mountaineers, 21-19.

After a hard nose start to the game saw the Mount match the physicality of Life on the pitch, Bastain Brunello scored his first try of the day running down the seminary touchline to put the Mount up early. With Evan Corbett conversion sailing through the uprights, the Mount took a 7-0 into the halftime break.

Xavier Lock started the scoring for the Mount early in the second half with a try after Brunello popped the ball to him on the touchline to get him into the corner. But a missed conversion kick by the Mount after the try only saw the team go up 12-0. Life then scored two tries in succession to put the Running Eagles up 14-12 through the 55^th minute. Brunello's second try came in the 70^th minute, with the fullback breaking away in space to score the try. After the conversion was made by Corbett, the Mount took a 19-14 lead with nine minutes left.

With three minutes left, Life found space on the goal line on the other side of the field to regain the lead after the conversion and holdout for the win. Hayden McKay led the team in tackles with 14 followed by Corbett's 12 tackles made.
