EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 28, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's University men's rugby delivered an impressive performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating Southern Virginia University 48–17 in front of a home crowd in Emmitsburg. The Mountaineers set the tone early and never looked back, showcasing a balanced attack and strong defensive effort to secure the convincing victory.
Mount St. Mary's wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as
King Canby crossed the try line just 90 seconds into the match.
Logan Wild added the conversion to give the Mount a quick 7–0 advantage.
Hayden McKay extended the lead at the seven-minute mark with another try, followed by
Saige Calvo's score at 15:00, again converted by Wild.
Trey Fields capped off a dominant first-half surge with a try at 20:00, pushing the Mountaineers ahead 24–0. Southern Virginia responded with two late first-half tries, converting one, to cut the deficit to 24–12 at halftime.
Southern Virginia added another try early in the second half to narrow the gap to 24–17, but Mount St. Mary's quickly regained control.
Lochlan Garvey ignited the Mountaineers' second-half push with a try at 58:00, converted by Wild. Garvey continued his standout performance with two more tries at 67:00 and 74:30 to complete a hat trick and put the match out of reach. Finn Hughes added the final try in the closing moments, with Wild converting once more to seal the 48–17 final.
With the win, the Mountaineers demonstrated depth, discipline, and explosive scoring ability as they continue their strong campaign this season.
