Emmitsburg, MD (September 14, 2024)- Mount St. Mary's men's rugby took the win at their home opener against Penn State, 26-22.
Evan Corbett's leg was busy today making six out of his eight kicks.
How it Happened
- The Mountaineers started off the scoring with a try from Saige Calvo 10 minutes into the game. Evan Corbett came through and converted the kick to make the score 7-0
- Ten minutes later PSU scored a try and conversion to tie up the game.
- Corbett gets the field goal to make the score 10-7 with 4 minutes left in the first half
- PSU then ties it up with a field goal of their own with a minute remaining in the half
- In extra time at the end of the half, Mount St. Mary's gets another field goal in to take the lead at the half
- The Mount came out hot at the start of the second half with Hayden McKay scoring a try with 2 minutes off the clock, followed by a Corbett conversion to extend the lead 20-10
- Corbett added two more kicks to make the score 26-10
- PSU responded with 2 tries and one conversion within 10 minutes of each other making the score 26-22 favoring the Mount
- With less than a minute left, Corbett made a try saving tackle on a PSU breakaway
- To finish it off, MSM stopped a Penn State scrum at the 2 yard line to secure the win
