Frequent Tries, Second Half Shutout Propels Men’s Rugby to Victory over Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (August 24, 2024) – Scoring 31 unanswered points, Mount St. Mary's men's rugby got off to a strong start for the 15's season of 2024. Holding a 15-12 lead at the break, the team posted a second half shutout on the way to a 41-12 victory over Air Force.

Evan Corbett provided the most points for the Mountaineers, completing a try of tries and a pair of conversion kicks. James Stelluti ended drives in goal twice as well. Xavier Lock, Hunter Hertzog, and William McManus also came away with tries.

Both Mount St. Mary's and Air Force traded scores in the first half. The Mountaineers got on the board first but missed conversions allowed the home side to grab an early lead. Lock's try to complete the first half scoring amounted to taking the lead for good. The final 40 minutes were all Mount, as four tries and conversions generated a 26-0 second half score.

After the final whistle, Raymond McGettigan was declared the Man of the Match.

The teams travel to Navy for games against the Midshipmen next Saturday, August 31.
