Box Score 2 PORTLAND, Ore. (March 30th, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's baseball suffers pair of losses to Portland in today's double-header. The Mountaineers lost a narrow contest in game one, 6-4, and a 23-3 loss in game two.
GAME ONE:
Coach Leoni and crew took to the offensive strategy early after scoring three runs in the first three innings.
Tyler Long led off with a single to left field, followed by a
JT Landwehr sacrifice bunt to advance Long into scoring position.
Jayson Kramer roped an RBI single to left, scoring Long to take an early lead.
The Pilots responded in the bottom of the frame with a leadoff triple and a score off a sac-fly to right field to knot the game.
The 2
nd and 3
rd innings were all Mount after
Ty Stecko opened the second with a run scored on a throwing error by the shortstop. Leaving the Pilots scoreless,
Scott Seeker opened the third inning with a leadoff solo home run over right center, 3-1.
Portland took command in the fourth and fifth after scoring three runs on two home runs to give them their first lead of the game, 4-3.
Ty Fredo responded with a deep shot over the center-field fence in the top of the sixth inning to knot the game at four.
The Pilots offense helped seal the game in the bottom of the frame with two runs on a triple and a fielder's choice to take their second and final lead of the game, 6-4.
Deven Sheerin held Portland scoreless the rest of the way, but it wasn't enough for the Mountaineers to mount a comeback.
GAME TWO:
In the top of the third the Mount scored three runs to combat Portland's five run second inning.
Efrain Correa, Jr. knocked a leadoff homer over the right field fence to cut the deficit.
JT Landwehr followed with a two RBI single to deep center field, scoring Seeker and Long, 5-3.
The Pilots took command early after erupting for five and six runs in the second and third innings, 11-3. Five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning helped seal the game for Portland. The Mountaineers were held scoreless the rest of the way, losing game two of today's doubleheader, 23-3.
Two players with multiple base knocks for the Mount: Seeker finished 2-3 at the plate with a single and a double, while
Efrain Correa, Jr. finished 2-2 with a solo home run and a single.
